The Movie Thread

The crazy thing is all the actors did resemble who they were portraying. For a second I thought that was really Pac in the studio (probably my favourite rapper)

I watched Margin Call the other day and fucking loved it. Brilliantly acted and a really gripping movie.

The bit at the end where Jeremy Irons just reels off the years of all the crashes and then convinces kevin spacey to stay as there will be a lot of money to be made during the recovery. The way that scene was acted just totally nailed it. brilliant.

bizarre but I thought the name Margin Call let it down, sounds a bit lame for some reason. Maybe I have a negative association with the term margin call.

Good to know J.K.S got recognition for his role, he was dynamite.

Since the wife and kids have been out of town, I have gotten a chance to watch all the crap that’s recorded on my DVR.

Jupiter Ascending - I was truly amazed at how dumb this movie was.

Trainwreck - Funny, but not that funny. Worth watching once.

Babel - This was a good movie. I must definitely recommend. Very reminiscent of “Traffic”, “Amores Perros”, or “Disconnect”. Probably one gonna watch it once, though.

The Martian - Good movie, but only worth watching once. It was really long and kinda boring.

Jurassic World - Worth watching, but not going to make its way into my DVD collection. (Speaking of—did you know that Bryce Dallas Howard is Opie’s daughter?)

Mad Max Fury Road - Watched about 15 minutes before I turned it off. I feel like it somehow builds on the first three Mad Maxes, which I’ve never seen.

Also watched Conjuring 2. It was pretty good, if you like those kinds of movies. I’m getting a strange crush on Vera Farmiga, and I don’t really know why.

^Just watched Trainwreck. Agree for the most part. Pretty funny. Very predictable. But worth watching once.

The Martian was good. Stuck to the book very well (book was still better, but just slightly). I’ve found myself rewatching parts as it’s been on HBO non-stop.

Jurassic World…meh

Mad Max Fury Road - I really liked it. Not loved it, but I went in with low expectations. The story was fine but it was the visuals and sound that made the movie. One of the most enjoyable movies from a sensory perspective I’ve seen in a long time.

me too. i think she’s a smokeshow.

Is anybody else hyped up for “Blair Witch”?

I really enjoyed the first one. I was 19 at the time and it was pretty freaky.

^ I’ve never seen the original.

No, god damn it no! The original was unique and pretty damn scary. I’m sick of all these shitty reboots.

Watched “Batman vs. Superman” last night on the DVR.

Too much CGI. Too much action. Incoherent plot. Too many cheesy one-liners. Not enough storytelling or character development. Plot was kinda dumb. Lex Luthor’s character was really dumb. Batman felt more like a superhero than a human being. (This is a Fail in my book. Batman is supposed to be a relatively normal person. A badass for sure, but a mortal human being nonetheless.).

However, as best I could understand the plot, I liked how the writers didn’t really side with either Batman or Superman. You were left to decide which one was good and which one was bad. Even Lex Luthor didn’t seem to be all that bad for the first half of the film.

Overall, if they were going for “epic”, then this is an epic fail. If they are going for “Let’s use this as an introduction for more superhero action movies to appeal to teenagers”, then they got it right.

When Blair Witch Project was out I was actually in NJ “down the shore.” I was 18, just graduated high school and I was down there with my gf. It was really rainy one day so we went to see the movie in a theater on Long Beach Island. Well, about an hour into the movie the storm outside must have really picked up because all of a sudden right at a spooky part when they are running around the woods the theater lost power. Pitch black, before everyone had a cell phone. The entire place freaked out. It definitely added to my appreciation of BLP and I still have not seen the entire movie.

I am being dragged to La La Land by gfs

Would you take my wife? I think she’s going to drag me to it this weekend.

Your wife should take my friends! They are awesome despite some questionable movie choices
