The Soccer Thread

No, that’s not true, some who assists is NOT a creative player. Beckham lacked the technical skill on the ball to be a creative player, and his field vision was nothing exceptional, Giggs was a great dribbler, but lacks the creativity, vision, and passing ability to be a truly great No. 10.

Koke OTOH is an example of a creative player, he has ALL of the attributes I mentioned. Giggs and Beckham are not close.

Yeah, clearly nothing exceptional:

You’re an idiot Palantir and clearly know nothing about these players. I’m done with this conversation. Let’s move it on to something else.

Sweet jesus.

That’s what we’re saying when we say your concept of creativity is limited.

Creators create chances, Beckham and Giggs did that in abundance.

Capaldij, I thought you were done with this thread, why do you keep posting? Perhaps if you knew more about the game and weren’t a blathering dumbass, you would actually recognize a real creative player, by you know, actually watching a game or two, but I’ll leave you to drool over your skysports tables.

^You should talk!

Palantir,

In football the ultimate aim is to score goals no despite there being a number of philosophies to get there. Players who score goals are goalscorers and players who create for them are creative.

You do noe need to interpret the game like Aimar to be creative. I think why cap is getting so frustrated is because you are missing that basic point

The ultimate aim is to score goals, but creativity is a trait that some footballers innately have, it includes but is not limited to creating goalscoring changes. Otherwise, by your definition, a number of great, influential, and yes creative players would be ruled out, which is ludicrous.

Do you fine gents not realise that you’re talking about two entirely different things? When Palantir refers to a player as creative, he means that the player plays the game with imagination and originality, not that he “creates” opportunities for other players. isildurr and capaldij are being very literal in their definition of a creative player as a player who creates opportunities.

Yeah we knew that from the start Higgs.

But Palantir is talking like he knows the sport well when actually the fact that he uses the terminology differently than everyone else (fans, players, managers and the media alike) and makes claims that are completely wrong about certain players (the Beckham video I posted and the lack of “vision” he mentioned for example) shows us he doesn’t.

He continued arguing because he couldn’t admit he had got it wrong and made a fool of himself in the process.

I’ll admit that I don’t know diddly about soccer, but if you were talking about basketball, hockey or American football, Palentir’s use of creative would be correct. If soccer is different, so be it.

Capaldij why are you still posting? You keep saying you’re no longer posting in this thread but keep coming back for more…

I’m using the terminology the way most fans, players, and coaches use it. I was tempted to blame your opinion on a very EPL-centric view, but now even English football takes creativity seriously, so now I’m just tempted to blame your opinion on you being an insufferable moron.

I was talking to Higgs because he responded, not you and your evidently uninformed opinions.

Still got nothing to say on the Beckham video and the fact you clearly got that wrong as well earlier do you? “field of vision wasn’t exceptional” - are you blind???

I can’t access videos at work.

ok, some players didn’t reach their potential under Alex Ferguson but it was always for the greater good of the team. he’s not some Tata Martina character playing Neymar every week when its clear that Pedro or Sanchez should clearly be playing.

You’ll probably say that Neymar is more ‘creative’

Staam was sold at the right time, Rossi and Forlan aren’t suited to the English league.

No Neymar is not a particularly creative player, but I’m always happy to knock down straw men you put up.

I would also add Rooney to the list. He has not developed into the player he could have been, and yes, he coudl have become a “creative” player, not to mention Anderson, who was a classic No. 10 with huge potential and is now an average discarded midfielder.

But then again, maybe you think Rooney is a world class No. 10 as we were told for years.

Did you only ever see him when he came out of retirement or something?

I’d struggle to think of a more overrated player than Wayne Rooney. but that’s due to hype, not potential.

noone will ever achieve what Fergie acheived again, would Pep have been able to rebuild Barca when Messi, Xavi and Iniesta retire?

the fact that Rooney’s now on £300k a week when Silva, Hazard, Modric and many more are on far less is a scandal.

Couldn’t agree more with this. Rooney is actually better in the midfield than he is at number 10 (he proved this last season numerous times) and Mata or Kagawa should really be playing there next season.

Manchester United just didn’t play Ando in the right position and let him develop and he was on track to be the best number 10 in the world at that point (he’d have likely ended up far superior to Rooney that’s for sure!). As I recall he won golden ball award at the under-17 world cup ahead of Messi and Mikel (used to also be a number 10) back in the day when they were all at youth level.

EDIT:

Really interesting article on Anderson here actually:

The assumption here is that liverpool will stand still.

They won’t. They’ve announced plans to take them second in terms of matchday revenue by expanding their stadium. I believe it will now be 52000+

They’ll be in the champions league next season with all that added revenue from TV rights.

The prize money generated this season will be reinvested in the squad to cope with added demands.

Their youth team- I don’t want to say anything about this but keep an eye out for the players they have coming through. They’re the quality that could go on to become once in a generation talents. 2 players to look out for- Jordan Rossiter and Harry Wilson
