That article is basically what I have been saying. I have always felt Fergie wanted to use creative players, as he kept purchasing them, but simply didn’t know how to develop or integrate them. I don’t think pep would have tolerated Rooneys behavior.
i think suso is liver pools best talent, him and continho are going to be great, but they will need a skilled deeper player.
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don’t be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm There’s a golden star (sky) And the sweet silver song of a lark Walk on… Through the rain… Walk on… Through the rain Walk through the wind And your dreams be tossed and blown… Walk on… (walk on) Walk on… (walk on) With hope (with hope) In your heart… And you’ll never walk alone You’ll never walk alone. Alone… Walk on… (walk on) Walk on… (walk on) With hope (with hope) In your heart… And you’ll never walk alone You’ll never walk alone. Alone… You’ll never… You’ll never walk alone… Walk on… (walk on) Walk on… (walk on) With hope (with hope) In your heart… And you’ll never walk alone You’ll never walk alone. Alone… You’ll never walk… You’ll never walk alone…
God, I hope Mourinho is lying about playing a second rate team against Liverpool. They don’t deserve to win it because Chelsea would rather win the Champions League (even though I reckon if Chelsea were to beat Liverpool, City would win the league on goal difference).
Can you really blame me when they were one of the best teams in the country just a few years ago and then stood still for no good reason?
They had Champions League revenue, were consistently in the top 4 and able to attract youth to the academy and top players and they STILL dropped down the pecking order.
Why? Because the fact of the matter is that the owners are reluctant to invest in the club unlike Chelsea and CIty.
It’s a problem Manchester United are about to face. Sacking David Moyes has temporarily painted over the cracks. The fact of the matter is that the Glazers have been useless over the years, plunging the club into debt and having to announce an equity offering just to get some of that debt off the books. Ferguson papered over the cracks because he was good at getting the best out of what was there (they spent very little in comparison to other teams until the Mata transfer over the past 5 or so years).
The only positive Manchester United have is they have spent so little in previous years, the owners have decided to offer a war chest for transfers in the summer of £100 million or so to sort the problem. If we look at what happened at Tottenham last summer though, it becomes apparent that this doesn’t guarantee success.
I think both Liverpool and Manchester United are in for a tough time in the years to come unless Financial Fair Play starts to get taken serious and FIFA starts to heavily punish teams that break the rules. If this happens Arsenal should stand a chance to dominate because Wenger is the best at keeping competitive with the top teams on a smaller budget.
Agreed 100%. The key is the owners philosophy though. The previous owners of Liverpool thought they could make a profit by selling players at inflated rates and investing in a lower tier and still be competetive. That was a major mistake and a reason why Liverpool almost went broke. I think they went into administration too.
The people who own Liverpool now are the same people who own the Boston Red Sox and they seem to understand sports. They invest in the squad and understand their investment will be repaid as the clubs brand grows. Footballs become like that.
Arsenal have problems at the upper level with Kroenke and Usmanov not being able to work together plus the game seems to have gone by Wenger. He looks out of Idea’s.
Chelsea and Man city will always be around as long as they have their sugar daddies now. I think Liverpool are here to stay. It would be amazing if Atletico somehow found investors too.
No, I haven’t seen that video yet, but given that I’ve seen him play, yes, his field vision wasn’t anything special.
lol
Since you bring this up again, are you going to still foolishly insist that he had exceptional ball skill and exceptional passing ability? Beckham was a very one dimensional player, and lacked many of these basic things that being a creative player require.
I never once said he had exceptional ball skill. He wasn’t known for his dribbling. He was a very good passer though and he did have a great field of vision. You obviously never watched the guy enough if you think otherwise.
Oh seriously, you’re posting the Wimbledon goal? That’s not field vision, he had acres and acres of space there. David Villa has scored similar goals like that and I would not call him a player with great vision. Vision is the ability to think with the whole field in your head, anticipate players’ position before they run into it, and then, finally be able to pass them the ball. Sergio Busquets has it.
Now let’s assume that I’m wrong, and Beckham has great field vision. Even if he does, as you admitted, he lacks the ball skill to be a true creative player, which was the whole point. He was a good passer, but surely wasn’t a great passer, there is no way he could retain or build attacks with his passing the way Xavi, Pirlo, or even the way his own teammate Scholes could retain the ball.
First of all, to even take a look at where the keeper is from that far out takes very good vision and awareness. He looks up and can tell it’s a better option than passing to team mates so he shoots and scores. Secondly, Beckham was very good at building attacks with his passing (see video below). If you’re telling me after watching that, that Becks wasn’t good at building attacks with his passing and dictating play, then there’s no convincing you.
Thirdly, ball skill doesn’t make you a creative player, it can help but creating goal scoring opportunities like Pirlo, Xavi, Scholes have done for years (who you just mentioned) makes them a creative player.
Xavi doesn’t always get assists, but he starts attacks and the pass that often comes before the assist and therefore CREATES goalscoring opportunities and is a CREATIVE player. Same goes for Luka Modric. Neither have amazing ball skills though. You don’t see either go on great dribbling runs past players and demonstrating amazing ball control.
No, a very high level of ball skill is a very key component of being a creative player. Without it you’d be exposed very quickly on the top stage. Beckham doesn’t have it, and he’s not on the same level as the others when it comes to passing. Modric and Xavi have excellent ball skill. There is far more to skill than running past players. You have a very limited view of the game, you associate creativity with 'south americans", you think skill involves running with the ball, you don’t grasp the fact that you need a very high level of ball skill to function as the central fulcrum of the side.
Actually, for Barcelona, Iniesta does most of the “creating” goalscoring opportunities while Xavi builds attacks. Please watch these players, then I’ll be happy to talk about creativity: Riquelme, Veron, Kroos, Cesc, Koke, Rivaldo. I could go on and on…but what’s the point?
Now if you think he could do it, but that’s not how Fergie played his teams, then that only adds to my point about Fergie. Who knows, maybe Beckham had the talent to be the creative fulcrum of his side (like Scholes)…we’ll never know…
Odds were slashed after the game yesterday. I don’t think the Glazers will risk it to be honest after what happened with Moyes. They need someone with Champions League experience and who is known for winning trophies. The only logical option is Van Gaal because he’s the only one available.
There’s a part of me that really wants Giggs, but it’s going to be Van Gaal I reckon.
