It’s hard to get good club soccer with my cable provider. They carry a few EPL games, but those are few and far between. And even if they did, between tax season and two kids in diapers, my schedule is pretty full. About the only thing I can get time for is the NFL. (REAL football)
They show games on Sunday morning, I remember last weekend ManU v Liverpool was shown on tape. If you want to watch, also look out for ESPN3.com etc etc. You can also buy paid packages that stream online to your PC. I used to stream games via free sites, but now that I’m a working man not studying for CFA…might consider buying a package…
I haven’t had cable in years. I put all that money into a fast broadband connection and watch games online. If its on tv somewhere in the world, I can watch it. Any sport too. There are a few cons too, but for me, the benefits outweigh them.
Don’t know much about the MLS, It’s a strange league. It seems to be a league thats becoming more and more wealthy but their model of buying players who can’t cut it in Europe anymore seems to be flawed. The football market in America will grow organically, The games far too good for anything otherwise.
They should be developing their own talent and playing them. Stage 1 will be exporting their talent, Stage 2 will be retaining it. Their benchmark should be the German Bundesliga not the English Premier League.
Anyway it’s the age of the internet dude, games are availabe 30 min after they’re finished for download in HD, You can stream games easily on the net for free etc.
The title run ins this year are very close. It’ll be epic to watch. Were you a fan when City won the title on the last day of the season?
Knowing almost nothing about the business side of soccer/football…
I think the MLS will have a hard time competing against the European leagues quite simply because of money. Real Madrid and ManU can pay more than FC Dallas can. So even if they can develop talent, the talent will probably follow the money.
^ In football the clubs recieve money rather than the league. So if FC Dallas develop a homegrown player from Dallas, they would’ve done it for neglegible cost. Once they sell him to Europe for a substantial fee that money can be invested in FC Dallas youth structures and so forth.
Once they have a steady supply of youth players ready to make the step up at any given point of time selling a player to Real Madrid won’t hurt them so much.
Football is littered with Middle-Eastern royal families, Oil barons, Billionares etc who all pay inflated transfer fees for players but the supply of players far outstrips the demand because the game is global. So if you grow a club while staying within your means it is possible to become competetive.
John. W . Henry the owner of Boston Red Sox is doing it with Liverpool FC. Swansea city are a club that are growing from strength to strength. Borussia Dortmund are a great example.
Anyway MLS needs to get the the concept of relegation, promotion etc. Half the drama is lost without it.
My wife just doesn’t understand this. She always says, “Well I record MY shows and watch them later.” (She’s talking about crappy reality TV like cooking shows and The Bachelorette.) “Why can’t you record your NFL games and watch them later?”
It’s not the same. You cannot watch a sports game after the fact.
I meant premier league is on Saturday morning, not Sunday. Right now they’re showing Liverpool vs Cardiff on NBC Sports. I believe tomorrow is Madrid v barca.
A world class player will adapt his game and will have a skillset wide enough to adapt to any postition.
I don’t doubt they can get a lot more out of Kagawa, He’s a lovely player but he lacks in a lot of areas and he should’ve improved a few of those areas by now.
Riquelme and Veron were good players. Ultimately they thrived when they were big fish in a small pond. World class player don’t do that.
