The Soccer Thread

Got banned. Ironically for posting formerly classified pictures in a thread lamenting attacks on free speech.

Blatter out is fantastic and I don’t think many people saw it coming.

The slave issue is disgusting and Qatar are rightly getting called out on it. It also leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when it comes to hypocrisy because British manufacturing (what’s left of it at least) certainly doesn’t have a problem using Qatari and Emirati logistic facilites when those facilites have as much if not more blood on them.

No one is taking anything away from Putin.

Blatter is not the guy who picked Qatar.

Or the U.S. Hosting military bases there…

My guess is:

2018 - Still in Russia.

2022 - Moved to the West.

I have to say, thank god the Americans stepped in because it was really getting fucking ridiculous.

It seems like the English press have been the only people worldwide that were reporting how corrupt an organisation FIFA is and everyone else was just happy to roll with it.

Really hope 2022 gets moved to the US.

Yeah, that was pretty ironic. selective moderation.

Today I learned that Aston Villa has won the European Cup before. Mind=blown.

^ crazy isn’t it? same with Celtic and Nottingham Forrest, twice!

In my book, anything pre champions league era is different though. Like Real talking about La Decima or Liverpool fans talking about Europe in general.

Seeing Andrea Pirlo cry was hard to watch…

Andres Iniesta:

Man of the Match World Cup 2010 Final

Man of the Match Euro 2012 Final

Man of the Match Champions League 2015 Final

That’s fucking impressive

^Word.

Anybody watching these games? International soccer is boring outside the WC, but maybe Messi will finally win a title.

Any Chileans here want to break down Gonzalo Jara’s move to get Cavani sent off? Hats off to South America. This is truly innovative.

^ yeah WTF was that? Messi was a boss today.

USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

for context - they haven’t played yet. Kickoff is in about 20 minutes. Just thought I’d get it in ahead of time.

Congratulations USA.

That free kick was freaking awesome…

That was some ruthless finishing by the US. The 4th goal from long-range was incredible, but the 1st and 3rd were really nice pieces of skill. Holiday made that volley look easy. Also liked the pass by Brian on the 5th goal. She pinged a bouncing ball along the ground right back into the goal area without settling it first. Again, not as easy as it looks.

I think the US gave up a goal to Australia in the first half of the opening game. The next goal they gave up was when they were ahead 4-0 in the Final. Jose Mourinho would be proud.

nasty

you’re welcome

Man City being put in their place right now.

They were lucky they didn’t come up against Barca in better form otherwise the scoreline could have been much much worse.

Messi pulled out his 2 favourite party tricks against english sides. The delay delay delay delay dink in the net and the quickfire shot from just outside the box that slowly tumbles in the bottom corner.

Stones at £50m is looking more laughable by the day. no point being able to play the ball out from the back if you’re never in the right position, can’t hold a defensive line and randomly decide to dummy a ball so it runs back towards your goal for a 1-1. He also missed an absolute sitter of a header.

City have been found out, just high press them like Celtic and Spurs have done and they’ve got nothing.
