I was in NY when they were untouchable. At a party and this kid who was supposed to be at the Yankee game was at the party also, Dave Cone pitched a perfect game that we saw on TV and the kid was like “well I’ll catch the next perfect game they have”
It was really sickening to be around all that Yankee crap during that run(so cries the Cubs fan)
They improved in the international competition and won some cups, yes. The national Bundesliga shows heterogeneity, some clubs are spending lots of money and others are careful. Bremen still refuses to take on debt (like Schalke and Hamburg who issued bonds) and suffers from high building costs for the stadium…
I don’t think Bundesliga as a whole is getting any stronger. It’s just Bayern and Dortmund. Bayern has bought all the stars of the Bundesliga and Dortmund is doing good with the youth development.
Schalke is among the top teams of Bundesliga and Real thrashed them both home and away recently in UCL. Real were thought to win it anyways, but 6-1 at Schalke’s home is just demolition.
And just a fun fact: Currently, the gap between Bayern (1st placed in Bundesliga) and Dortmund (2nd placed in Bundesliga) is of massive 25 points. Goes to show how ridiculously easy it is for Bayern to win the league.
I think it is. Munich have demoilished the league this season but they’ve had to spend a bomb on Thiago, Gotze and get the best manager in the world to do it.
They couldn’t touch Dortmund the last two seasons. They’re becoming financially healthier, they pick up players from good reigons in the world ( Lots of Japanese players now playing there), their clubs are well run etc.
Right now only Bayern and Dortmund can compete in Europe you’re right, but i think more and more German clubs could become competetive. We’ll see.
Both run ins in England and Spain going to be very very close. Could see the spanish title race going to the last game of the season
Still can’t get over Aguero winning it for City in the 94’th minute on the last day. Madness
Germany has excellent young talent coming up though, and Bayern can only buy so much…
Real’s title hopes just derailed, and I think Atletico is taking this one, would love to see them take the league or CL. Hope to see Koke become a starter or at least a sub for Xavi this summer.
Bayern won the bundasliga by 25 points last year and are that far ahead again this year. I can’t see Dortmund catching them up in the short term, especially if Bayern keep raiding them for their best players every year.
Interesting to see Real Madrid lose last night, apparently ronaldo and bale had a bit of a disagreement.
Hopefully Atletico can keep up their form, their game against Barca on the final day of the season could be the decider
True, he is not a Xavi clone, but I meant in terms of being the central midfielder and organizer for Spain. Unlike Barca, Xavi has to play higher up the field for Spain, so potentially, another player like Koke might be a more natural fit.
as much as i love the football they’re playing i still can’t get behind Liverpool. I think its because I’ve had to listen to their fans bang on about the glory days for so long.
I like lpool, their fans, their banners, that stadium for an important match and finally that anthem. “You’ll never walk alone”. They’re diffrent like that compared to the sould drabless fans of chelsea.
Like Dortmund too, what a stadium.
Suso is stylish on the ball but they’ve been linked to Ravel Morisson who could reach the levels of Kaka etc.
