they’re crazy, playful, want just the right amount of attention, and can take care of themselves more or less. Plust they’re damn fun to watch. Definitely worth it if you’re okay with the few downsides.
I remember hearing stories of people who would get rid of animals because they met a girl/guy who didn’t like them. Idiots.
When I was dating, if I met a girl who didn’t like my cats (or was allergic to them), I’d tell her to hit the road. The only girl worth giving my cats up for is my daughter (who didn’t exist at the time).
So…cats use a litterbox instead of having to go outside every 3-4 hours. You can go an entire workday without having to go home and walk them. You can also leave the house for a week, and only arrange for somebody to come over and scoop poop once a day, instead of boarding them, or asking a neighbor to take them to their house. They also don’t drop grenades in your yard, your neighbor’s yard, your carpet, or your hallway.
Poo box takes some getting used to. It’s ok eventually though. Thing about cats is that they are very clean in general. They don’t smell and don’t leave dirt anywhere. This is the opposite of dogs. Of course, the fur is an issue with both animals.
Poo box and the hair balls are the worst downsides of having a cat, but every pet craps and pees and taking care of that is never much fun.
Cat scratching furniture is also a pain sometimes, though scratching posts can help. Also cats like to jump on things and knock them over, which is sometimes a problem. Mostly they wander around looking cute and ask to be petted at times.
If your cat goes outdoors and has a cat door, your cat will occasionally bring you presents in the form of dead or dying animals such as rats and pigeons. That can be a bit of a shock the first few times it happens. Indoor cats might catch mice too, but usually the mice can smell the cat and know to stay away.
thinking about a 2nd cat to keep the first one company myself. Anybody else do this? Is it a bad idea? Also anyone here have cats and babies at the same time, any advice?
My dog does fine going for a leak at 6am and again at 6pm. Never had an issue, ever. And my house doesn’t smell of cat poop. Which cat people’s houses smell like, they’ve just got used to the odour. Even some of the people begin to have that slight odour about the.
Having the cat poop, paw it around, and climb onto the kitchen counter is no worse than a dog pooing, strolling into your room, and sitting on your pillow ?
It’s a great idea. We had one cat for a while and it got into mischief. We have two cats now (got them together at the pound as kittens) and they keep each other entertained (i.e., they try to murder each other) and out of mischief (mostly).
