Tips for the exam.

It would be good if we can come up with some ideas/tips to efficinently and accurately finish the exam.

(1) Efficiency: underline the keywords when reading question. that way you will spot figures easily when you have to enter them in calc. Even if you revisit that question, it might be helpful.

(2) Efficiency: cross the answers that easily identifiable as incorrect choice.

(3) Accuracy: don’t type figures on calc too fast like you type an SMS. I keep doing that and I find a lot of time that some numbers were skiped due to too fast typing. I am practicing right now with holding calculator in one hand and pressing keys with another hand.

To cover exam in multiple pass or not? I say go through easiest questions first and mark them complete in question paper so you don’t waste time on them on next pass.

I haven’t taken a mock exam but I am sure I will run out of time.

And just for fun: What’s your plan if you really don’t know the answer? A or B or C? I am thinking C enlightened

And Finally: Print your tickets, make sure you have correct name and spelling on ticket.

what kind of bag can you take in exam? a regular backpack allowed? or you have to take out stuff and put it on your desk and leave the backpack in locker or somewhere?

Please do add your 2cents and thanks for inputs in advance!!

good book…i read the two paged section on tips

I wrote up some tips from my experience and that of my students; you can find them here:

Good tips.

the ultimate tip-if ur well prepared for the exam with crystal clear concepts(no mugging up things unless u really cant understand them) you wont need any tips,so go and study

I always tell my students to go immediately to the sections they know best. As they work questions, always put an answer down. If they’re unsure but they can eliminate one option, guess and write what the options are (i.e. eliminate C and guess, then put A/B on the booklet). IF they can;t eliminate, still guess, mark it as a WAG and move on.

This way, they ensure that they have something written down for everything, and that they get the points that they;re most likely to get. This matters if they’re time constrained. If not, they’ll look up after their first pass, find out that they’ve got solid answers for over half the material, and their stress level decreases. If they have sufficient time, they can then give a second pass.

It sucks for them to be running short of time and have to rush (and guess) on material that they should ace. This way makes that a lot less likely.

Nice tips!

Tips and tricks are helpful, and you can solidify them with practice tests. Try them out, see what works for you.
