Trading Private Bergdahl

OK. I’m retarded and I know it.

Can somebody google “Trading Private Bergdahl” and post the picure here? Or tell me how to do it?

And is there any way to reneg on this deal?

Maybe I shouldn’t be too hard on the President for putting American lives in danger and violating about 38 of the country’s laws. I mean, the five known terrorists did assure Qatar that they were not going to harm American interests for one year.

i find it hard to believe that any administration would be this stupid/reckless. they will probably all meet the business end of a drone in the near future.

^President Obama’s administration has been a total failure in his second term. The first term was not good. The second term has been disastrous.

Don’t be so hard on the president. 5 real terrorists for 1 supposed deserter is a pretty good valuation. Just imagine what you would have been worth Greenie while you were still in the Corps. Hell, we might have released Bin Laden himself if it meant securing your safe return.

again, i think with just about every event there are agendas being served that the general public is not aware of and the political calculation of every move is much more sophisticated than we give credit for. i’m not saying it was a good move for the U.S. but it was good for somebody or some interest that the administration values, otherwise it wouldn’t have happened.

There’s definitely more to the story than meets the eye. Why the fuck would the trade5 terrorists for 1 deserter?

^Thanks, Kanuck.

And like Higgs said, there’s got to be a political reason. Maybe he was just campaiging again and it’s starting to backfire. Maybe he’s trying to take eyes off of the VA hospital stuff (which he claimed to know absolutely nothing about).

Whatever his reasons, I think it’s a PR move gone really really bad. It’s like his own personal “The Decision”.

It’s been very amusing watching MSNBC the past few days. They really have no idea what they’re supposed to say about this.

I have a feeling that if we learn more about this situation, we will just conclude that this decision, like many decisions in a bureaucratic organization, was made based on questionable research, extrapolative conclusions, and because it served the interests of some entrenched faction of decision makers…

The dude on the far left of the movie poster should give up his terrorist career and take up MMA. I think he would win every match just by looking at his opponent. He has to be one of the scariest looking people I’ve ever seen.

I think Jani Bergdahl gave Barry a hummer in the oval office and the order was given.

Yeah, even Richard Engel, who reports for MSNBC, has said that he’s getting all his information from the Taliban. He can’t get any information from the US gubmint. We’re limited to whatever the (surely perfectly honest) White House press conferences tell us.

MSNBC being critical of B.O.? Richard Engel probably needs to prepare his resume to send to Newscorp.

^ They were really scrambling when Dianne Feinstein came out with this:

“It comes to us with some surprise and dismay that the transfers went ahead with no consultation, totally not following law,” Feinstein told reporters following a closed door meeting. “And in an issue with this kind of concern to a committee that bears the oversight responsibility, I think you can see that we’re very dismayed about it.”

I think they cut to 17 consecutive Cialis commercials yesterday when she said it on air.

I think that more likely, it was a miscalculation - they knew they were paying a high price, but were unprepared for the “he’s a deserter” backlash.

^Yeah, I think what was supposed to be “Look how much Barack Obama cares about our veterans” has turned into “What the fuck were you thinking? Not only are you negotiating with terrorists, but you’re a bad negotiator and you’re breaking the law while you do it.”

“Oh yeah–and the guy that you traded 5-for-1 for–he’s actually wanted for desertion and aiding the enemy.”

Perhaps this deserter dude had some valuable intel? There has to be more to this story.

I don’t care for this arguement. I’d be willing to wager we won’t fight another war against another nation in our lifetimes. And by that I mean a serious conflict against a recognized government. There’s just too much globalization. So, the people we are left fighting are insurgents, terrorists, rebels, etc. We now fight organizations instead of countries.

With that backdrop, negotiating prisoner exchanges are nothing new. We’ve been doing it since before we even became an official nation. So, I’m not the least bit upset about the concept of exchanging prisoners with the Taliban.

However, whether BO followed proper legal channels, if we gave up too much for this dude’s return, etc. all of that certainly demands consideration. But I’m not going to fault anyone, even BO, for bringing a US citizen home. Even a coward like this guy.

We can always drag Obama through the mud for a plethora of other reasons.

Hmm…? I don’t know, all those guys in the picture look super trustworthy, I’m sure they won’t do anything bad now that they’re free. Seems like a legit trade to me.
