In a prior post, I spoke about moving from a nyc branch to a boston branch. Though there are a lot of pros to living in nyc, my network resides in boston (and family) and thus ive never considered ny as a permanent spot. I informed my middle manager who said i should ask the vp directly (he’s in boston). I sent him an email and apparantly he gave me the greenlight to move as long as it was ok with my middle manager.
I just met with my middle manager to discuss where i stand and to attain a better understanding of the switch. I presented her with the fact that my network is there and given the opportunity to move, I would. She understands the network aspect but spoke to career development (more lateral movement available in ny). Also, since we are a small team, the face to face interaction wouldnt be the and a lot of the quant / pms are located here in nyc.
I want to move, and have considered this for quite some time. I have a follow up meeting with her in 2 weeks - how should i go about this situation?
I would focus on how you can add value or continue to add value to your business from Boston. I doubt that your managers care about where your network or family is, what your dog’s favorite color is, etc.
I have, and there is certainly less room for growth in boston on the analytical side but more growth on sales (I am currently in the latter but would consider myself more the former if that makes sense).
Dogs are not fully color blind. They just see fewer colors than us. Same with cats. I guess from an evolutionary perspective, it’s less important for them to distinguish fruits and other colorful things.
