Triathlon training thread and Race Schedule / Results (KMD's stomping grounds)

ahhh yeah - I should be able to get a tune up on the Madone (Carbon Fiber) somewhere this week. Gears are pretty wrecked though. I’m going through my gear and what I need - I checked Amazon though and delivery is backed up until 9/24. I wanted to order a crazy top to wear with the de Soto Riviera tri shorts I have, but looks like I’m going to have to stick to my current gear. I have two triathlon tops. One is a red singlet (Zoot) and other is black cutoff tri top. My chest might be too big for them though and I have some other cool shirts I could try out designed for surfing (they look like T-Shirts), but are supposed to be swimmable. I have 4-5 of them, 2 DaKine ones with a really good fit. Also possibly 2-3 BJJ/MMA rash guards that might work. Not sure what I’m going to go with. Each piece of gear is a very important decision for me as you really have to live with it in a 70.3. I really need to test the gear out this time.

Today I was thinking what it means to wear a wetsuit to be slightly faster and warmer in the swim. For me, I think I do well when performing at a very high level of intensity in a moderately cool environment. I think a no-wetsuit swim might help me in this aspect of cooling my body down a little bit to be fresh for the bike. Just some of my thoughts towards strategy of wearing vs not wearing a wetsuit as many wear one purely for speed.

I might do a combat style swim with possibly fins at first. Food and water rations. I’m not sure how far, but maybe 3hrs or so. Then I might drop the fins another day and do a second combat style swim for 2 hours or so with rations. I’ve been thinking that swimming might help my body overall, regardless of what type of stroke I practice. I think my body needs a bit of water therapy as my achilles were loving water therapy on Friday in knee to thigh deep water running drills.

KMD - do you do 2+ sport training sessions often?

Yayyyy

Yeah should be fun! Augusta event is looking like it will have a lot of people which is nice. Triathletes are so fun/quirky - the more the merrier!

I only do about 7-8 sessions/ week (for 8-12 hours of training) but I also work full time spread between two different jobs and have other personal hobbies. It is a good thing I respond well to a low volume/ high quality program because it is all I have energy for! Ideally I would train twice a day most days and take one day completely off for about 11 session a week.

oh ok sweet

this mandatory shirt rule in the US is ridiculous…

ahh fuck me… this is too much for me to handle. damn it. for several reasons, Ace’s training thread has been migrated to my facebook, no shit. fuck. I don’t really like to disclose my full training schedule, but with my coaches splitting, I’m about to enter some shit possibly on Thursday not to mention the fact that my head coach thinks I’m not training enough, just pisses me off to the point that I’m fully disclosing my training schedule to him and another coach that went to a different gym, in which I have been pressured not to go to, but thats fucking rediculous, this is my COACH

just fuck me sideways right now, I can’t handle training and dealing with all these politics. so decided just to be very transparent and then Thursday will post that I’m going to the other coach’s gym too and I don’t know, it might piss a lot of people off. Today one of the words said to me about not going to the other gym was that the coach talked shit about the owner, owner’s wife, and their daughter all on camera. My first thought is, why is my head coach so paranoid to watch camera footage? In fact, why is my head coach not in the room… coaching?? ughhh more drama is Dutch Thai coach left too, but is coming back in January (secretly) so as not to piss off other Thai coach that left. I am invited to the ‘secret’ class in January. Really guys. What the fuck is this. Ah man, anyway just meant to post I got a new shirt. https://www.trekbikesofmountpleasant.com/product/pearl-izumi-elite-pursuit-tri-sleeveless-jersey-248497-1.htm

Went to the Trek dealer and they happened to have a Tri shirt that fit me. Miracle. My gears were skipping on the Trek Madone as I rode the bike so hard and long that all the cogs wore down, hahahahahaha. Ok. So had to get a new chain + casette+ tune up. I ripped all my old tape off and they are taping up freshies on the front, camo, obvs.

^^Introspectively, think of the dilemma I am facing. This dude (coach) is no longer welcome at my MMA gym and is said to be “one not to be followed” as he is a “bad person.” Legit, ‘do not go that way’ martial arts blabber… Anyway, I said I still wanted to train with him and people gave me the “you just pissed on my dog” look, ugh. Fuck. Fuck. I feel so defeated by all of this, I guess I will just do what I want to do that day and make no plans. Just like every day.

KMD - not sure where you said it or if I replied, but yeah Gatorade loading works. I prefer to load first with Coconut Water + Pineapple Juice (its all in one) and then as it gets closer to takeoff, make sure I have downed some Gatorade. But, don’t drink it if it ‘seems’ like too much to drink (taste buds). Also, be careful about tapering down off of Gatorade depending on how much you take on initially.

KMD - how many ounces of water are you starting out with on the bike? I used to roll with 3-4 24oz bottles (in a 70.3 race), but that seems insane right now. I might just start with 2 and rely on the breaks (every 15mi). We have run breaks every mile. Also, heard there is an Olympic Tri the next Sunday near me. I might be in, depending on how this one goes. I’m excited!

I got my bike out the shop today, about to go test it out now and work on my KOM course I’m trying to get (elevation repeats 8x on bridge).

I am starting with 3 sport bottles of gatorade and 5 gels. I then hope to get a 4th bottle on the bike course. After my long ride the other day, I realise I may not need all those gels… likey just 3 will do if all my fluids provide calories.

oh ok cool

Are you going with the disposable Gatorade bottles? I like the bottles I mainly use, but pouring other liquids into them each time could add up and I could toss the other bottles and just grab new ones that fit.

I used to stick some bars in chunks on my bike as well (on top of frame). I tried it with a Lara bar, but it wasn’t the right consistency. I think I used Clif bars before, but normally don’t eat grains. Maybe I could get some Oatmeal / Raisin ones or something to try out though, I like seeing my food/fuel in front of me.

haha thats awesome

KMD - are you riding without socks for the bike or run?

Doesn’t matter what I’m doing! Whats going to work for you? (Probably will wear them)

I haven’t worn them in the past, but am thinking of wearing my rasta Burton snowboard socks and possibly gloves even, idk I’m still unsure about the water. Maybe I should take 3 with space for 4. I’d have to get another add on to my bike tomorrow.
