Altered Carbon is awesome. Almost done watching it. Plot line is ok (albeit for a few not needed twists). The concept is great, and to be honest, not that far fetched.
Started watching Alienist, but acting is just so terrible, couldn’t stomach it
My comments on the new Star Trek, some “spoilers” perhaps in my analysis of the political agenda, but this is very high-level…
It would be a good show, the futuristic ideas are sometimes fun (tardegrade muti-universe travel, etc), BUT it’s absolutely saturated with ultra-transparent progressivist propaganda.
The lead character of course HAS to be a black woman, and they even go further and give her a man’s name. The other captain is an Asian female. The third captain is a straight white conservative male, he is of course the bad guy (because men and whites are genetically evil, and conservatism is “nazi”), and must die a horrible death so we can say “see, better be born a black woman next time jerk!”. The only white male officer on the bridge is the doctor, who of course is gay. Lots of gay kissing in the show, because that’s what Star Trek fans want? Tons of propaganda about how the progressivists (the federation) “should” triumph over the conservatives (alt universe Terrans, and Klingons)…which is done not thru pragmatism and strategy (as it is done in real life), but thru hopeless idealism and a cult-like adherence to their goofy federation.
This is a problem of intolerant California banning all other ideologies from the industry. It is imbedded in Black Mirror too, which I watched recently, and really every show/movie. Diversity of ideas come from diversity of ideologies (duh).
Anyone watched Wild Wild Country on Netflix? It’s a 6 part documentary series about the Rajneesh cult that took over the town in Oregon, bloody fascinating.
For any foodies the Netflix show Ugly Delicious is really good. A lot of people don’t like David Chang but he’s pretty funny. Momofuku ko is my favourite restaurant in NYC
This is a pretty decent watch - I’m not a fan of David Chang but I like how they work in the social evolution of the food they showcase into the episode. Sometimes it can be a bit overbearing but at least the visuals are good.
For any golf fans: Netflix has “The Chronicles of a Champion Golfer”, great little show focusing on one Open Champion golfer per episode, profiling their life story, how they won it, a walk through of their final round. Interviewees include Tiger, Tom Watson, Nicklaus etc. I won’t lie, the Darren Clarke one made me tear up.
This show is trippy as hell. The part where the main dude has a dance off in imagination land with Aubrey Plaza and the guy from flight of the concords had me laughing my ass off. I think you need to drop acid to fully appreciate this show or something because I cannot follow what the hell is actually going on. Side note: anyone else think Rachel Keller looks just like a young Alicia Silverstone?
Watched this again today at lunch. Wow, this entire show will make so much sense to everyone when everything comes out. Dave is definitely a woke bro and he dropped some BIG LEAGUE knowledge on everyone here. Truth & reconciliation is the only way to bring down an evil system. He knows. He lived it. It will take a while, but people will begin to “get it” and applaud Dave. No mistake this is called the Bird Revelation.
Damn, I had no idea it was so soon. My prediction is Anthony Hopkins will be back. He created a host of himself and that was who got spoilered at the end of season 1.
Also, don’t read /r/westworld. Either they’re freaking psychic or Westworld isn’t as complicated as GoT because that sub nailed the entire plotline of Westworld by the third episode.
Westworld is well written so you can find out what’s going on based on clues. GoT isn’t more complex, it just randomly changes the plot. Westworld is much more nuanced imo. I doubt any one person would have put that all together, but it highlights the power of crowds. They have already spotted some cool stuff for season 2
Yeah, I strongly disagree with you on the GoT vs Westword comparison. Granted D&D have taken some liberties with the source material (and now surpassed it) so it’s not as complicated as the books, but you’re talking about a world with (literally) 10,000 unique characters against a show about a movie from the 1970’s. I love Westworld, but it’s not on the same level as GoT.
