Type of test for hypothesis testing

I am having a lot of trouble with selecting what the appropriate test statistic is for a hypothesis test. Does anyone have any hints on what helped them get this concept down? I have read both the Schweser notes, and the CFAI book on this concept. Additionally I have watched the Schweser videos, read the secret sauce, and have done their 3 day workshop, yet I still can’t quite get this concept to sink in.

Try following this:

a) Test whether mean of sample is greater than or less than a value, only sample variance known: T-test

b) test whether mean of sample is greater than or less than a value,Population variance known: Z-test.

c) test wehether means of two samples are different, variance of both samples given: t-test

d) Test whether two samples have same variance: F-test

e) Test whether a samples variance is similar to population variance: Chi-square
