England was finsihed a long time ago, America will be finished soon, the East is back in the saddle.
Also who the fk let in a white south african? leave the place for a while and it goes to the dogs.
it’s pretty dumb that indians are trying to say that America isn’t the #1 cultural influencer of all time (okay fine, maybe aside from the Romans, but maybe not). they are accusing the americans of not being worldly, which may be true to some extent, i know for a fact that the typical american is less worldly than the typical canadian, and european for that matter (though this is likely due to Canada/Europe having a greater % of educated white collar workers and not some endemic problem of perception in america), but indians are denying America’s pervasiveness in their own culture.
fact 1: America imports basically nothing from India, China and everywhere else that isn’t an American concept or idea. Americans don’t eat Indian food very much b/c its not very good. that’s why there isn’t a McManmeet on every block in the world.
fact 2: India, China and everywhere else import a crapload of things from America or things that were conceptualized in America. when was the last time you indians dined at McD’s or KFC or listened to music that didn’t go bunga dunga dunga dunga bunga dunga dunga dunga or sound like a cat in surgery?
this is a stupid debate and the indians will lose handily.

It’s fairly easy for Europeans to be “worldly” when you consider the fact that Madrid is closer to Munich than Miami is to New York or that London to Moscow is just over half of New York to LA.
maybe, but i do think the primary driver of worldiness is socioeconomic status and the degree of homogeny in one’s society. Canadians are only more worldly due to greater exposure to people of other cultures and a greater percentage of the population in a higher socioeconomic group. this is why it is possible to know Canadians who are anti-worldly (typically poor or live in sheltered communities) as well as Americans who are more worldly than anybody (many middle-upper class New Yorkers). it has little to do with geography or isolationist tendencies.
The Cowboys are the most popular NFL franchise in Canada (excluding franchises that are located in Canadian border states and franchises that have won a Super Bowl in the last 15 years).
^So let me get this straight. America’s Team is the most popular team in Canada, other than Seattle, Minnesota, Green Bay, Detroit, Buffalo, Denver, St. Louis, New England, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, New Orelans, New York Giants, and Baltimore?
Many factors make Canadians more worldly than US citizens, but I do not think socioeconomic status is the primary factor. Rather:
The US, as mentioned, is the biggest media exporter in the world. 90% of media consumed by US residents is probably produced domestically, and this saturates their exposure to global culture. Canada probably imports a greater percentage of their media, from the US, and also from other countries.
90% of Canadians live close to the border, making them more likely to travel to other countries. In the US, people who live in San Francisco or New York are probably more worldly on average compared to people in the middle of the country, even when normalized based on net worth.
The US has a strong tradition of independence as a result of its history. Canada still retains cultural and political ties to the British Commonwealth, France, or other countries. If Canada rejected the British monarchy, I’m sure their culture sharing with the UK would decrease.
Socioeconomic status is probably a factor also. However, people in many countries with poorer populations are more aware of the international community, due to geographic, historical or other reasons.
I believe the original argument was that America’s cultural influence is completely out of propotion with relation to it’s economic supremacy highlighting the fact that countries at the other end of the socio economic pyramid (for now) and countries in the middle of it that are still emerging still have a soft power projection that belies their economic power giving rise to the popular held belief among the rest of the world that the Americans lack ‘culture’. It is probably a massive difference in outlook but the idea that exports and imports contribute towards ‘culture’ is scoffed at in the rest of the world where materialism is simply not considered to be ‘culture’.
The example given of course was the mainstream acceptance of Yoga, Karma, concepts from Buddhism etc. If your argument is that the Yoga practised has no relation it’s original forms the flip side is also valid that the Mcdonalds and KFC that are present in South Asia have simply almost zero relation to their original counterparts. The McDonalds and KFC in India do not have beef nor pork on their menus and they are heavily modified with influences from the sub-continent. In addition simply to counter your point it is valid to assume that Indian cusine has made far more inroads in North America than vice versa. Indian culture / cusine is so mainstream in British society that if you walk into a English pub in Los Angeles you can expect to see Chicken Tikka on the menu.
Finally it would be difficult and foolish to argue about Cinema which is perhaps the only thing in the ‘cultural’ aspect that America has exported far greater than perhaps any country in history but it is also worth noting that at less than 1/10’th of the budget Cinema from India and Nigeria has made inroads towards reigons that Hollywood has simply struggled to enter again displaying a soft power projection that is at odds to their economic muscle. I apologize for the copy paste but it is summed up nicely here
Of course with time the Russians have probably moved on, there are also a number of cases including performing arts etc where again America is simply dwarfed by nations they simply shouldn’t be but I can see we will probably get nowhere. Moving on…
Frankly, who gives a shit? Just an educated guess, but I will always be taller than you and I am universally considered better looking than you. Do you care? Does it matter?
Steelers, Cowboys, Bills, and Patriots are the most popular teams in Canada. 49ers (due to the Montana era in the 80s) and Dolphins (due to Marino) are not too far away. Raiders is the most popular team among the Canadian inmate population (I’m not inventing that).
^ I have to admit though there are a lot less people wearing Cowboy gear here in the last 15 years. Either their fanbase were bandwagon jumpers or they have been in hibernation just like their team.
Thank you H P Flashman for so aptly describing majority of Zidhai’s comments about India. I am not from India but am related to someone from there and I can promise you Zidhai that you have single handedly managed to destroy the little reputation that India had left after these horrific cases in its capital. Here’s my take on the situation - 1. Banning a taxi service is not an appropriate response to rape. 2. Uber was not banned because of the aforementioned point. It was banned because it claimed to have properly verified police records and background of their drivers - which they didn’t. All they did was get a document of police record stating he was of good character, which he clearly wasn’t. Misrepresentation. 3. Indian Police fucked up by failing to get this guy off the streets - this is his 3rd rape accusation. That’s just worthy of a serious bitchslap on any policeman who claims to have done his job. 4. Yes, India has a big cultural problem in its perception of sex. Indian parents are ok with arranging a marriage and getting you to sleep with someone but they wont allow you to go out clubbing with the opposite sex. That said, India is otherwise a wonderful country to travel to, maybe not to stay for a longer period of time I hope to have provided some useful comments to put things in perspective - and if someone finds my comment(s) offensive then I apologise in advance as I am not going to get sucked up into a debate.
