I am currently living NZ and working as an IB analyst with a boutique investment bank with ~2.5 years experience. Does anyone have a feel for the current UK IB analyst job market? I am keen to move to the UK but I want to understand the market before I commit to leaving my current position.
hey guys, I would be interested by UK job market status as well thanks! M.
If you’re living in NZ, why don’t you think about going to HK or mainland Chiner? I’m looking at this from the US perspective, but I can’t imagine that the UK market is much different than the US (and western market in general).
Are UK banks even looking for foreign hires? Seems like they are inundated by local applications in addition to the political pressure to keep jobs within the EU.
Why would UK even care about EU?
It’s some political thing. I’ve heard this from my friends who are graduating international students in the UK.
I actually have a UK passport so should be no political issues. i just wanted to get a sense of how easy it will be to get a job? (like I say given I have about 2.5 years IB experience + masters in finance)? What sort of language skills are required to work in HK or mainland china?
Back to UK market, in terms of getting working visa, is it equally difficult between US citizen and BRIC citizen?
HK - English. Cantonese is most prevalent followed by English then Mandarin, but all professional employees speak English. Mainland China- can get by with English (Shanghai most conducive to English, foreigners, finance, etc) but don’t expect to break down any cultural barriers or get the best quality information if you don’t know any Mandarin. Fluency would not be expected of a foreigner though- it’s such a hard language those that achieve native fluency tend to have their own TV shows.
