Unemployment Rate for CFA Charterholders

New CFA charterholders for 2012 received a congratulations email this morning. CFAI also updated their stats http://www.cfainstitute.org/programs/cfaprogram/charter/professions/pages/index.aspx

Globally: 104,408 Charterholders

Occupations

So officially, the unemployed rate is 4%. pretty good. half the US national rate.

but I wonder about the 5% other category and the 1% student. should they be partly included in unemployed too since those are charterholders doing some off-the-path job they likely dont’ want to stay in. So, adding part of that 6%… 4% + ~4% = ~8%

Now, it’s basically the same rate as the national unemployment rate.

Random food for thought…

I wouldn’t call being a student unemployed. Don’t they normally have a bar job or something in between skiving and drinking beer?

Good post.

If I were at the CFAI, I’d send a rusty hacksaw to that 4%. Strengthen the heard.

The unemployment rate among people with at least a college undergraduate degree is 4%, so I’m not impressed.

I wonder what the unemployment rate is within the finance sector people right now? I bet it’s over that 4% level.

I wonder how many people would be like what I am hoping to be - passed all 3 exams but no charter thanks to lack of relevant work experience…

think about the US un-employment rate ~8% vs under-employment rate ~17%. Its really the same concept.

If you have a CFA charter and have been unable to find work and instead get a secretary job, or part time gig just to pay bills, you fall into the under-employment bucket.

Relationship Mgrs, Sales and Marketing is a little surprising at 5%. Unless they had the Charter before then switched to these functions.
