Univ of Toronto prep course

Hi All…I had passed the L1 while I was in NYC and had taken the Stalla live classes with Peter Olinto at that time (2009). Since then I have moved to Toronto and have registered for the L2 exams for June’2011 Wanted to know if anyone had any inputs about Univ of Toronto’s prep course by Michael Hlinka. Seems very expensive ($3150) but the pass rates claimed by them looks to be very impressive (75% for L2 & 92% for L3). Wondering if anyone knows the diff between them Vs Stalla/Schweiser live classes

I am enrolled on the advice of other people who have taken the course before. I heard it is very strict and he works very hard to keep you on track throughout your study period. I am in the Thursday class. My only concern is that he might not provide condensed notes for each reading, requiring me to purchase schwesers texts.

Notes are not required. He will provide a condensed version, and requires/recommends that you use the CFAI text. I took it for L2 in 2010 and passed…rather comfortably I might add. But it’s all in how you approach the classes.

Michael will give a condensed item set on a weekly basis, and asses a mark. This along with 3 tests, a half exam, and full final enable you to track your process throughout the course. The marks are tallied up weekly, and you are able to track your progress against your colleagues in the course via a weekly email in which you are identified by a number in which you select at the onset. Program starts in late Oct., and follows the books in sequence. If you take the course seriously from the get go, and do the readings on a weekly basis (including the EOC’s) you are in a good position to pass… Best peace of advice I can give…get to know the wording used in the text, especially the EOC’s, they seem to find their way onto the exam.

thanks to both of you guys!!!

Anyone with a feedback abt this ? Quite expensive, but sounds interesting. Any L2 taker went with Michael and passed ? Please share your experience. thanks

($3150) not worht it, you can do it by CFAI text only

Yea seriously, unless your company pays for it or you have too much cash… why not just do it on your own?

I’m also in toronto sounds way too expensive.

Yes, it is expensive. $3150, you really feel it, especially if u can’t get your money back from your company. My exam fees will be covered, but don’t think I can expense this as well since it’s not a course with a degree at the end. Maybe if there are many TO guys here, we can organize ourselves together for this L2

I thought about taking it but it starts in October and I did L1 in December. If you are disciplined enough and take it seriously, you can do without it. I studied 5 months without the UofT course mainly CFAI books and passed…but I had NO LIFE for 5 months!
