Unpaid internships?

Is this legal in US?

What? Is this a serious question?

Did Mark Cuban’s blog post make ask this question? http://blogmaverick.com/2009/09/05/want-an-unpaid-internship-so-you-can-get-valuable-experience-screw-you/

Yeah, they are legal. I wouldn’t try and go to a big 4 bank and say “I won’t take your upaid internship because its illegal.” You will get blacklisted faster than a Jefferies banker at Fidelity.

Never worked for Jefferies. Is it really as bad as most people here say? I did meet a former Jefferies analyst who jumped to PE and is now in a top 5 MBA program.

whats wrong with jefferies? I thought they were a top notch boutique, or am i way off here?

It’s more of a running joke over on WSO. Im sure they are ok, dont really follow them too much. If they have made a national name and get recruits from Wharton and other targets there must be some merit. I think they excel in Healthcare, I could be completely wrong though.
