The dichotomy is fascinating. If you follow the law, we hassle you. If you break the law, we give you free food, housing, and an education. And if you disagree with this, we call you a racist.
Oh don’t get me started, US immigration is so unfriendly, not fun going to (or getting out of) that country.
Normal law abiding people treated like criminals, until proven otherwise (which can never be done). Everywhere else in the world people have basic manners, “welcome to Philippines sir, enjoy your stay”, or at worst disinterested in you just going about their job. But in the US it’s scowls, intimidation, power trips…one guy almost drew his gun on me. WTF creepy natzis?
And after all that their security isn’t even effective, 95% failure rate.
Oh gosh… I spent 4 years in a US college, 2 years doing my Masters, and worked for two years. I had to leave after spending 8+ years in the US (which were almost all of my adult life) when my H1B visa application was not selected in the lottery. My company offered to send me to Qatar.
I had to spend two years of my life working in the middle east doing non-finance/econ related stuff (writing reports for engineers and construction contractors). My firm was finally able to bring me back on a new visa, but by then I had lost so much industry exposure and contacts that it felt like a totally new start for me. Meanwhile the US still exercises the Diversity Visa (DV) program, which randomly (you read it right, RANDOMLY) picks applicants from around the world and grants them residency, while qualified and educated folks are forced to return to their home countries. I’m going to have my first baby next month, so naturally my parents wanted to come and visit their first grandchild. My dad is a retired high-ranked official in his home country, but the US embassy decided to reject my parents’ the tourist visa, TWICE.
In my experience, US CBP isn’t too bad. Canada wins my personal ranking for rudest immigration officials though. I did run into an incredibly good looking female officer clearing immigration in Calgary though a couple years ago, and she was nice
yep that’s right. and to add on more salt, apparently our leaders would rather TURN AWAY immigrants who have jobs lined up and will pay real taxes, and instead let IN illegals who use up healthcare, education, resources and contribute more crime. and btw, our taxes are paying for those illegals. what the F
Yeah man, I don’t get it. I’m a Canadian citizen and travel on a Canadian passport and get the 3rd degree nearly every single time I come back to Canada. I got NEXUS/Global Entry so now I don’t need to speak to a human and can just deal with the kiosk. The kiosk is way friendlier than Canada customs.
^ I used to have Nexus until I got secondary searched twice in a row. Once by the Americans and once coming home. Didn’t renew. Never had a secondary since.
You are not able to think it thru and figure it out? It’s difficult to prove a negative, failure to find anything just means they haven’t found anything yet, and you’re still probably a criminal. Very different from civilized countries where the assumption is you are a normal tourist or business traveler, until proven otherwise.
Yup, Canada immigration is super rude. This kinda surprises me, would think they would be more laid back. But we’ve been delayed so many times, over totally nothing.
I have thought it through and figured it out. I was trying to be polite here.
Let’s try it another way: your statement that it can never be done is stupid. It’s done all the time.
Now you’re substituting platitudes for analysis. Everything that can be stated as a negative can be stated as a positive. Your statement is a pathetic cop-out.
Now you’re getting it. So now you seem to realize that it can be done.
Your point seems to be that presumed innocent until proven guilty is better than presumed guilty until proven innocent. That’s not remotely the same as saying that the latter can’t be done.
Of course. But I understand your concern: I’m the one here who won’t let your stupid statements lie unchallenged.
Sorry that that bothers you. Perhaps you could take it as an opportunity to grow, rather than trying to discredit others. That’s a pro tip, to borrow your phrase.
interesting, start a thread to make an AF joke and it becomes a serious discussion. try to start a serious discussion and it becomes an AF joke thread.
