using recruiters vs applying straight through company's websites?????

Hey guys, I have been debated amongst my colleagues what is better to use; a recruiter/ head hunter to find new work or to take the time and “challenge” on by yourself? I think a recruiter takes away alot of the stress of looking for new positions but what do you think…
