V for Visa

Marketwatch reports that “The initial public offering of credit card company Visa Inc. is priced at $44 a share late Tuesday. The offering raised a record $17.86 billion with the issue of 406 million shares. The $44 a share price was above the expected range of $37 to $42 a share.” Since Mastercard performed well since it’s IPO, I’d like to conduct some analysis on the Visa Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of CF. Anybody have a clue where I can obtain this data?

I hate to sound like a huge jerk here, but given that you don’t know where to find this blindingly obvious information, what makes you think your analysis will be worth the paper it’s printed on? That said, my apologies for being a jerk are to point you in the right direction: www.sec.gov.

I would look on EDGAR…they will have any public filings from Visa. It is going to be pretty brief if anything however as they are not required to file a lot of historic info since they are private…at least for the day.

Ignore those schmups. They don’t know sQUAt! For the facts, try the yahoo chatroom for mastercard: http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Stocks_(A_to_Z)/Stocks_M/threadview?m=tm&bn=27383&tid=49200&mid=49200&tof=1&frt=2

LOL…nice find, virginCFAhooker. My favorite one is this gem: "trying to put a limit order and got this Your order for Account: Cash USD to Buy 100 shares of V at 55 has generated the following error(s): Quote data is currently unavailable for this symbol " i wonder what kind of “analysis” this guy has been conducting…

NakedPuts Wrote: “blindingly obvious information” - just my 2 cents… marketwatch.com - does not have updated information reuters.com - v.n and v are unknown symbols yahoo.com - nothing http://www.hoovers.com/visa-inc/--ID__40515,period__A--/free-co-fin-income.xhtml - useless yes, indeed I should have tried 10-k in google rather than visa income statement. anyhow, I thank you for your valuable input.

He knows the symbol and what price he wants to buy it at. What more can you ask of him.

Visa holds roughly 3x the market share of MA if im correct? Would they trade at a premium to MA given their more dominant position? MA is currently trading at 23x 09 earnings. Would they command 25-30x? On the surface visa seems like a great play with an overall secular trend towards electronic transactions, strong growth in developing countries etc… Given that analysts massively underestimated MA’s growth prospects, is it safe to assume that they will be much more aggressive with Visa?

Here’s the 10k: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1403161/000119312507270394/d10k.htm I wouldn’t buy it. There are a lot of liabilities and I don’t need a company that has so many liabilities. I have enough of my own.

What more can you ask of him. you missed the point. he wants to know why he can’t buy shares of visa right now. obviously it’s because the IPO hadn’t priced yet, and shares still don’t trade on the exchange till tomorrow.

Well it’s an IPO, so rather than 10-K you should have been looking for an S-1, and indeed the first link that comes up in google on the old “Visa S-1” search is a link to doc you are looking for. You must beware, however, that the presented doc is the original S-1, and they have since filed several S-1/As, which may or may not contain material information.

A very wide moat company to say the least…

I don’t see any moat on the balance sheet all I see is liabilities which I don’t need.

That litigation ruined their year, other than that everything looks decent. virgincfahooker what worries you?

If moat didnt matter, then maybe I’d buy Discover instead…

I was being sarcastic.

On a related note, does anybody like my “I hate to sound like a huge jerk…” but then I go on to say the jerky thing anyway? Apparently I didn’t hate it too badly. It’s like the old “No offense, but…”. You can’t lose.

sorry wanderingcfa, didn’t catch the sarcasm
