Verification of work experience

Hi all - just got 18 out of the 20 months of “relevant” work experience I had submitted approved by the CFAI. I was a bit surprised as for a bulk of the work experience, I was not doing anything related to the “investment decision .making process”.

Anyways, it got me thinking that I could just have easily said that I’ve been an IB-analyst with GS for the past 5 years or that I’m running my own little hedge fund out of Dubai - how will the CFAI verify this info? Do they do verify it at all?

I thought about the sponsor forms then, but what if for instance you’ve worked in mulitple companies where you gained 4 years of relevant experience, you’re only allowed two sponsor forms, and the two you choose may only cover 2 years of your work exp. How does CFAI verify you’ve met the 48 month requirement?

Hope that makes sense.

what if for instance you’ve worked in mulitple companies where you gained 4 years of relevant experience, you’re only allowed two sponsor forms, and the two you choose may only cover 2 years of your work exp is there a real restriction on the number of sponsors and the work experience per sponsor? or is it your guessing?

Chad17, I don’t think they verify the work experience, they just decide if what you said you were doing there qualifies as relevant work experience. It’s an honesty based system that can be audited (I assume random submissions are audited). On the other hand, going through the program should have taught you the importance of ethics… maybe you’ll be a good hedge fund manager… Positive, the sponsors don’t have to be individuals working with you. They are not vouching that the work experience actually happened but look over the description and give their opinion if it qualifies or not. You can ask two people that have the charter and never worked with you to be your sponsors

Cheers mate. It’s all about Ethics then !
