Video shows man dragged off United Airlines flight after overbooking

this is hard to digest

BS knows the industry, no doubt. But his rigid defense of this event is intriguing.

BS - you don’t think there is any chance United cuts this guy a check, which will be a large sum to him but a pittance to UA, just to prevent him from going on every last talk show and telling “his side of things” to every media outlet???

I get that the people involved were “just doing their jobs”, but the public image is pretty bad at this point.

interesting how only police officers are allowed to be cops in this “free” country thanks Trump :-1:

This comes from a combination of personal experience in other areas with settlements and knowing how thing profit margins are on airlines as well as having had a brother fly for the airlines. Like cable companies, they’ve made a business model out of lack of customer service. There’s this mindset left over from the lawsuit happy 90’s that everything results in some huge settlement. But more recently I’ve seen a few people go after companies for settlements and honestly unless you have a big case you get left standing with a lot of wasted time and money, they’ve upped their game and learned their lesson. The PR damage is done in this case and giving the guy a settlement won’t alleviate it… the internalized lesson the airlines learned from 1990’s through now has been that only ticket prices and flight availability matter. So most airlines are confident that these acute scenarios don’t play out with any meaningful bottom line impact. For every 100 customers you might lose over the PR those 100 seats will be filled by someone attracted by a $10 price discount. It’s why all of the reward and customer service bells and whistles have slowly gone away. It has negative ROI. Customers simply don’t opt for a $100 more expensive ticket or less convenient route simply because of a news story and the airlines know this.

Legally, they also know they can dump this one on the actions of the officers and the police union has record of abusing its end clients and getting off scotch free that makes the airlines look like a hospitality service.

Only because S2000 quit coming to watercooler.

btw I’ll take free whisky any day.

My sister is a captain at united. Internally, its pretty messed up at that company as well.

Since she joined in the 90s, it went from being a well paid prestigious job to dealing with all sorts of crap (especially from management) due to a myriad of factors.

But, I agree with BS on this one. Other employees had to get to a hub and sh*t happens all the time being a passenger on one of these planes. I have dealt with more crap as a passenger flying in recent years that my expectations are so low that I expect delays, missed connections, overbookings, overcrowding.

It’s not that I don’t have sympathy for the guy but have learned through experience that kind cooperation with authority is usually best (I have learned it the hard way).

Funny video, haha. I agree with Black Swan. That guy probably isn’t getting anything except Internet fame, the bad kind.

please share

We don’t know how forcefully that passenger resisted the United air crew or cops - my guess is he probably didn’t put up much of a front, just didn’t want to give up his seat as most people wouldn’t. I also think that a lot of people out there, have a lot of pent up rage and anger, including those cops (at least from what I observed on that video) - “homo hominus lupus est” for anyone familiar with the Latin phrase…

It’s stunning that United couldn’t offer more than $800 to people to give up their seat, especially since it was for one of United’s own bozos. They could easily have flown the United staff members on a private plane or 'copter.

Frankly, after seeing that video, United would have to pay me more than $800 to fly with them again. If I ever cross paths with that CEO I might have to “re-accommodate” that fool.

Numi, but not all of us fly NetJets like you do…

No offense, but LOL Riiiiiiiggghht.

Again, google any airline and scandal and take your pick.

Also, there are multiple angles of video showing him clinging to his seat fighting. Sorry, but if you resist the police, they use force. Chicago police already saying it’s his fault that he hit his head on a arm rest. Lol. He may have been a doctor and you may feel being 1%er gives you special status, but not resisting officers when ordered off an aircraft you don’t own = highly recommended.

you really think i might have lupus?

i agree i will not be taking united ever again. i hated my flight from vegas few years back.

^ Yeah, I didn’t mean that literally – as in, I wouldn’t voluntarily “re-accommodate” someone that’s nearly 2x my age, 2/3 my size and with a history of heart disease. That being said, I’m sure the public backlash he’s deservedly receiving isn’t helping his blood pressure.

I’d still put my money on him.

Also, I’m sure he personally called and ordered the police that don’t work for him to rough the guy up, internet tough guy.

People suggesting United find a charter plane on short notice to get employees who’s own routes have been canceled to an airport in time to prevent further cancelations after several thousand flights were canceled in a week due to storms have no idea how these things work.

Straight up, this doctor held himself above airline policies and the law as well as the flights that would be halted due to his own unwillingness to move.

#WonderWhatThatArmrestTastedLike

I think he said you’re gay also.

It’s a 4.5 hour drive from Chicago to Louisville, almost all of it through Indiana. United could have hired someone to drive their employees that distance. They should have offered more compensation to get someone else to go off the plane.

To put police on a plane to remove a passenger who didn’t want to leave… in this age of smart phone and videos, WTF were they thinking?

Always whitey picking on the defenseless Asian. He was targeted

wut they let women fly those things? No wonder aviation has become so chaotic in the past few years
