Can someone clarify what the “sponsor” does? Is this the same as the “beneficiary” or is this the equity investor that puts in the extra bit (like 10%) to finish funding the VIE?
my understanding is that the sponsor is the brain behind the whole operation. that is the company that really controls the VIE. the equity investor does not have a lot of control is I am correct
The sponsoring firm is not necessarily the primary beneficiary, but because the equity investment is too little for the VIE to exist independently, a sponsoring entity or entities will supply the required capital.
