Wallets

I’m on the look out for a new wallet; willing to spend £100 ($150) max.

I carry 8-10 cards, 2 notes and never any coins. Looking for something slim…

What do you guys use? You know of any decent brands out there…? I’m not gonna pick up some fashion branded, armani or gucci junk btw…

Was looking at bellroy slim sleeve as a potential…

Is it really worth spending that much on a wallet? What’s it going to do for you that a similar no brand name wallet won’t at 1/3rd the price?

price is relative… I dont consider £100 that much money. And I dont mind spending a little bit on a wallet…I’ll use it every day and its likely to last for 3+yrs.

What no brand name wallet do you suggest?

Just go to a store that specializes in leather goods (not a designer store) and pick one. It will be cheaper and higher quality leather, last much longer.

I have heard people rave about the Bellroy slim’s quality on reddit though, so I am sure you would be fine with that.

I’ve had a brown leather one from Tumi for about 7 or 8 years now. Still going strong and get compliments on it. Leather actually looks better with age, and it’s nice and supple and thin enough (we have similar card counts).

I took a quick browse and dont’ see the exact one I have on the site anymore. But I have always been pleased with the things I’ve gotten from them.

I also have a Ferragamo wallet (got as a gift) it held up pretty well over 2 years and the ladies love it (for better or for worse). I rotated it out in favour of the Tumi.

I bought a $20 Fossil wallet the other day at a place. It basically cost me $5 out of pocket because of the way the coupons worked out (if I didn’t get it, I wouldn’t have been able to use a coupon).

It’s better than the wallet I was using which had started falling apart. But it’s not that great, so I’m interested in this wallet discussion too.

My main problem is that I stuff lots of things into the wallet (those CVS disocunt cards, my IB code card, ID card, library card, ACLU card, etc. and the thing gets very thick in my pocket.

What benefit does an ACLU card provide?

In truth I don’t have an ACLU card, I just figured that someone on the forum would find the idea that “bchad is a card carrying ACLU member” funny.

Instead (truly) I have a membership card to the American Museum of Natural History, since I never know when I might stop in to check if Neil DeGrasse Tyson is home.

I can only guess, a slightly lower chance of getting killed by NYPD officers during stop and frisk operations, and the like?

I really like the wallet I have, my ex got it for me as a gift from Italy years ago. Its simple, black leather bi-fold. Its nice the cash compartment is divided in two so it makes it easy to keep cash and reciepts apart, or two different currencies when travelling.

A friend of mine gave me a Fossil wallet as a Christmas gift last year. I liked the look of it but questioned the durability.

About a month after, there was an accident in front of me on my way to work (guy got t-boned going through an intersection by a lady who was texting – both ended up being alright). I had to fill out a witness report and was using the back of my car for something flat to write on, and when doing this I accidently left my wallet there and drove off. I realized this about a mile down the road and circled back, hoping my wallet had fallen off in the parking lot where I had filled out the report. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case, so I continued to retrace my steps and ended up finding my wallet in 4 lanes of traffic (given this is Toronto it was probably run over dozens of times in a matter of minutes). Aside from a few cards being blown out, the wallet ended up surviving, and as an added bonus it received a nice, worn look months before it would have had this not happened.

The wallet is still in perfect shape, and I receive comments on it regularly.

Kramer: Nobody carries wallets anymore. I mean, they went out with powdered wigs. Yeah, see here’s what you need. Just a couple of cards and your bankroll.

See, keep the big bills on the outside.

Jerry: That’s a five.

I’ve had a bi-fold Guess wallet for at least 5 years now and it’s holding up fine. I believe my wife bought it for me at TJ Maxx or Ross, so likely $20 or less.

I have a bi-fold Fossil watch that my sister-in-law gave me for X-mas when she was a teen working at Hot Topic or some similar trashy place. I typically just carry around my debit card, my main credit card and my DL in a thin metal business card holder. I can’t sit on a wallet because it really irritates some nerves in my back/legs, so something thin for my front pocket was necessary. I rarely carry cash so this is a great deal and it is extremely rare that I’m in need of something other than those 3 cards. For good measure, I took pictures of everything in my wallet, front and back, so if I need to use a specific card online or need an account number for something, I’ve got the info on my phone.

or hacksaw.

brand name wallets are the biggest scams

Pretty much every wallet I have owned, regardless of cost, has lasted so long that I decide to “retire” it out of sheer boredom. As long as the quality is reasonable, I’m not sure if I would pay a premium for exotic panda skin.

On that note, how is that thing worth 100 GBP? Even if that is not a ton of money, I would vomit at the sheer lack of value.

I actually use something similar, but it cost maybe $25 on Amazon. The change buys 3 months of McChickens.

I’ve been using the Bellroy slim for a couple years now. Solid quality and I like having a tiny wallet that doesn’t feel awkward. That said, I don’t carry any bills in it. I have 8 cards and a few business cards. Edit: The specific model I have is the “card sleeve.”

Well it’s £60, so US$100.

Show me something similar for $25 on amazon and i’ll send u a xmas card.
