Want your birthday info for job applications?

A recruiter asked my birthday for some job application. I gave it to him but afterwards I am worried. He claimed he needs that for job application. But I worried it would be in the wrong hands. Is my worry justified?

Did you put your birth year on it? If you’re in the US, it’s actually illegal for an employer to ask you your age, other than “are you young enough that I must observe child labor laws.” If you are willing to tick off your recruiter, you can remind them that that’s illegal. But, sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor.

in asia, it’s even common to even have a photo of yourself on the front of the resume

In Cont. Europe photo and bday are pretty common to appear on CVs too

Europe: the birth date is required and often you can’t leave it out. The photo isn’t mandatory, however. No handwritten personal letters either - I belive graphology (analyzing the shape of someone’s handwriting) is more of a continental European thing (?)…

In India most people include their religion as well and caste/sect.
