weird box in excel cel?

when I copy a table from an html page into excel all the numbers have a weird little box behind them. When I use find & replace to get rid of the box, I cannot copy the box into the “find what” field. How do I get rid of these little boxes in my data? thanks

The box is probably a part of the html code that doesn’t convert over right; sometimes it denotes a blank space in text. Have you tried pasting the stuff in, then recopying it and doing paste special–>paste values into another part of the worksheet?

i figured out how to get rid of it using “search”, “left” and “mid” function

How? Sometimes I find it useful to search/replace the character alt+0160 (numerical keypad) with nothing, which will change a number from e.g. 123 456.78 to 123456.78.
