While the US did contribute measurably to the Allied victory in WW2, to most people, this was their great grandparents’ war. It has much less relevance than modern US politics, which are not only determined by current voters and policymakers, but have dynamically observable effects on the modern world.
Of course, we should not expect that any other country would be more benign than the US if they had the same global influence.
Should we similarly be thankful to the Prussians for the fact we don’t all speak French?
Don’t forget that we all speak English because another imperialist nation basically won at some point…
Before moving to the states, what image did you have in your head?
I know italian women, after WWII, had a good image of american soldiers. I am curious to know what is the view of today’s generation.

Back in Russia, the stereotype was that American men, compared to Russian, were more rule-obedient, independent (don’t need to be hovered over by a woman, can cook a meal and generally take care of themselves), more materialistic/career oriented, but also more emotionally distant/cold (don’t let you in).
So far every stereotype has been broken, except for the last one, since I haven’t really tried yet:)

My appologies, i assumed you were foreign. I have traditionally only had commited relationships with non-american girls, or first gen, (indeed quite strange, but i tend to find them more interesting). For the most part, i have an ideology that they are more in touch with their femininity compared to their yank couterparts. With that said, I was always curious to know how they viewed us (me) before communication.
Just to address the obesity remarks, I think americans have more extremes. A large portion of our population is overweight but there is a also a significant % that are probably in better shape than most of the world.
