What if Incomes rise with Inflation?

the $2,800 give-away thread game me this idea…

for this to be a reality, a large protion of the swiss would have to spend the money on swiss goods, but, just in thoery… good or bad? or no change on net?

The way I read the article, you only get money if you work and make less than $2,800 per month, then you get a check to make up for the difference. That money obviously has to come from increased taxes on people making more than $2,800 per month, so the net spending should be unchanged assuming the greater than $2,800 per month people will adjust their spending in response to paying higher taxes.

In general, though don’t people with higher incomes have less elasticity of spending? If you make $1 million a year, you don’t spend $2,800 more if you get a check for that amount.

I guess the effect, if any, of the temporary decrease in payroll taxes in the US would be a good barometer. Did people actually spend that money when they were getting it and scale back when the tax went back up? I didn’t factor it into my spending at all. Folks making less than me might have though.
