you go to meet this employer who call you on the phone after you sent a cold email with your resume. During the conversation, he mentions that there is no openning, he just likes to talk to people and stuff??? and then he says keep in touch in 2 o 3 months and tell me what are you doing ???
It means keep in touch in 2 or 3 months and tell him what you are doing. Send him a follow up e-mail. You just got a contact.
JoeyDvivre i was hoping you will respond to my post. Does it mean that the guy did not think i was the right fit and he quickly sent me packing. Is that how they do it in this field? Thank you Joey
ssdnola, who was the guy? can i get his contact, may be I’ll try! And what site are you using to send these cold emails… and for what positions. spill the beans.

I think there was some miscommunication since i was talking about how i want to be in research and i think he was looking for investment banker analyst, and somehow tought they are kinda the same so the whole thing went sour.
If you didn’t apply for a specific opening it might mean the guy is interested and might come up with a something in 2-3 months, if you’re still on the market. As JDV said, he might be trying to create something. Definitely not an “I’m not interested”, cause he would’ve not called you.
Here s the thing and i think it is my fault. The resume that i sent, my objective was Investment banking analyst. In the interview i stupidily start talking about wanting to be a research analyst so i guessed i confused the guy or he thinks i do not know what i am talking about so he sent me packing. I am thinking of sending him a thank you letter and mention that i am interested in investment banking, and i was just nervous during the interview. what do you guys think?

I would not play the “nervous” card.
thank him with a thank you note, follow up in 2 months, and reiterate ur interest in i banking, even if it is not what you want to do. I have a restructuring/NYC intervew tomorrow. I feel your pain, looking for a job sucks.
Good luck man. I just sent an email and mentioned that I overemphasized my interest about research when in fact I am more interested in undrerwriting, advisory and stuff like. I hope i can get a second chance

“What does this mean?” Besides that, i have a general question i hope one of you regulars could answer without me having to make a topic about it. Since i consider myself “back in business” i too want to send out cold resumes out. But im hoping my objective is more descriptive then IBanking analyst. Something along the lines of finance, financial analysis, IB analyst. Any suggestions? Besides that im just going to give my resume to my friends who all work in big 4 companies for 2 years now.
sometimes simpler is better. I would put financial analyst and try to quantify what you did at prev job. use power words like “created” “led” “strategized” “organized” “saved” etc
ssdonla, i think he misread your resume . he was trying to be Polite when he said keep in touch . i would not even bother to call him back( i know bad attitude) . move on there are ample of jobs in finance industry
level1 december: I think you are right, i felt the same way. I am not sweating it at all. I will keep searching. Thank you guys for the input.
good man, i dont know wat kind of oppurtunities you are looking for . frankly speaking getting a role of analyst at hedge fund is vvvv difficult in invest banking u might unless you have background of accounting or top mba or actuary … etc . if you are looking for step into the door kind of oppurtunities then post your resume on one of job hunting site like e-financialcarrer some head hunters might have something for u.
