what's in your 401k

Ok, Thinking on a rebalance, unfortunately I find my self bearish on just about everything in mutual funds (all my 401 k can invest in). Gold, Bonds, and REIT funds all have run up nicely What’s in your 401 k right now. Do you just get a good allocation and let it ride for the long term or do you pull out if you think double dips or bond bubbles are on the horizon?

My 401k is all index funds. I don’t think I would be able to trade my retirement account objectively. When it’s someone else’s money, it’s a different story, of course…

stocks and bonds, 5% cash

Pork bellies, gold and FCOJ.

90% stocks, 10% bonds.

Roughly 20% emerging, 30% international developed, 20% domestic small cap, 30% large cap. I’ve had this mix for a while now…it has served me well. What bonds are you guys buying now?

i think i’m at 90% equities 10% bonds (intermediate duration to corp/credit and underweight to treasuries) i have about 60% international, 40% US in my equity portfolio (almost similar to GDP-weighted allocation, also i think fairly similar to the ACWI index weighting), but of the 60% in international, i have about 20% slice in EM. most indexed when it comes to US, but I have couple of stellar midcap and smallcap funds (artisan mid cap, goldman small cap value, etc.) in a few years (way too early now), i’ll slowly allocate some to the TIPS fund. (obviously the above is my retirement account (401k, roth ira, and rollover ira). I have a trading account that i "play" with, trading options (usually buying out-of- calls or selling a cover call on my more blue chip names) and super volatile stocks…

In my retirement account (which has a time horizon of 35 years), I am 85% equities, 15% bonds. All index funds. Within the equity portfolio, 50% EM, 25% International developed (outside NA), 15% US, 10 % Canada. It is extremely hard to time the market. Studies constantly show that the best 5 days in the year make up most of your yearly gains, and those big days usually happen when things look darkest.

emerging mkts equities + commodities for the past 2 years

man you guys have quite the variety offered in your 401k. My selection is pretty much limited to a couple indexed domestic funds and a couple domestic and international stock and bond funds. Maybe one crappy emerging market fund. I just use it to get a solid asset allocation to domestic index funds and some international exposure and use my ROTH for more risky plays.

I’m not a fan of my 401k options but I’m a huge fan of the match so I’m mostly in the money market fund.
