What's your life like besides studying for CFA?

got nothing going on :-(…failed L3/not sure whether to retake…unemployed/unemployable…fooling around in R.

Im sure the knowledge you gained by passing two levels won’t be a waste no matter what.

Have forgotten most of it already :-)…which level are you preparing for Mojo?

So you haven’t worked in the industry yet?

I only just signed up for Level 1 yesterday… Don’t know when I’ll receive the international shipping of books and schweser notes? I’m studying part time postgraduate finance this semester at uni and my new full time job (which isn’t investment related) will start sometime next month. I can deal with minimal socialising with friends but together with uni, work and some other hobbies (like photography) I haven’t worked out a plan for CFA exam yet, which led to the creation of this post.

To the guys who remember the formulas while drinking. I really admire you.

I just passed L3 but about 95% of my last 5 years have consisted of the following (approximately in this order):

• work
• study for CFA exams
• spend time with the wife and kids (now age 6 and almost 2)
• sleep

Occasionally spent time with friends, but never had anywhere near the social life they had. They gave me a hard time about it but my general work ethic has resulted in about 2x the annual income (and growing), so I’m cool with it.

Congratulations! That’s very inspiring. When are you going to be a charter holder?

Staying back and studying in the office definately helped me through level 1.

I almost wish I lived further away from work now. My train ride is only going to be 10-25 minutes at a time. I pick up a book, read a few paragraphs, then I have to stop and get off. Annoying!

My work is light - 9 to 5…so i can do much:

(a) party over weekends - i keep my books in my car so study at whatever time i get - waiting for friends, sneak in an hour in office, post lunch if donig out of office

(b) one short vacation every two months - just fly to visit friends in other cities - study during flights, waiting at gates - IMO, most productive for me. vacation keeps me charged up

© i try to study three times a day - 45 minutes to an hour… once in the morning 6 to 7am, once sneaked during work, and once after finishing work and before dinner… that works wonders as i dont get burnt out

(d) me and a friend are developing a mobile application - have to make money on the side

(e) astronomy on some nights - recently it was the solar eclipse and the transit of venus. this month saturn is great viewing…

So you have two jobs, one regular and one mobile app development.

Graduated from uni last year, was studying the whole of last year for CFA so its been just studying since school for me, so now its chilling time

Until level 2 tension starts creeping in ofcourse…

Looks like work is a piece of cake for most of you. I’m starting a new job a month from now, and the work itself will be challenging enough and lots to learn, and ill have to prove myself. can’t help but feeling worried. But still, it will be better than unemployed like I have been lol

i am learning 4 foreign languages, reading, watching movies and tv series and lately fencing and spending time with my bf. when i have the occasion i travel. i am just starting the cfa adventure so i don’t know how many od this activities i will be doing in the future

i don’t study all of the at the same time a few months one of them another few months classes on one of the others…then i feel like revising something on the third …etc
