What's your life like besides studying for CFA?

good luck to you lockheed. I hope you achieve happy motherF-ness (regardless of how crude the term is).

This is exactly what I was thinking. Dunno what her google comment was about. A lot of people talk about shorting this or shorting that, but many don’t realize there are serious logistical supply issues that can make this borderline impossible when it comes time for an obvious short. A perfect example would have been lehman or any of the other major banks during the 2008 era. There was relatively little actual shorting going on because borrowing costs and limited supply made it a difficult venture. The same goes for buying puts or selling calls, you have these underlying logistics that can make it pricey and you also have the inclusion of volatility in the pricing that will take out a lot of your upside if you’re say buying a put.

^ What I was thinking

When I search for CFA info on Chinese websites, it can come up with an entire thread full of female participants. (e.g. http://www.douban.com/group/topic/19218360/). I actually decided to do it partially because my previous flatmate (female, Chinese) did it and passed level 1. And then this Australian girl (caucasian) told me on Vogue forums that she worked in funds management and recently passed level 2. (I’ve seen about 2-3 males posting on vogue forums in 7 years)

I’m starting a business analyst position in a mortgage credit risk assessment / analytics company. I could tell them about the exam I guess… Except if I don’t pass that will be quite shameful lol. In fact I’m going to a salary negotiation meeting with my new boss on Monday. Now I wonder if I should bring up the exam to get a few more bucks… Haha

Ana - what course are you studying at uni? Four foreign languages are amazing. I only studied one and only one was required but I became pretty good at English. Would love to know some others.

There is the risk of embarrassment if you tell everyone and then fail, but eh…I think they’ll respect that you’re willing to put in the work to take it.

See if they will reimburse you for expenses incurred. After you pass the test you may be able to revisit the salary discussion. Best of luck!

Wouldn’t FRM be more useful for risk related stuff though? In any case…well done and good luck!

The purpose for pursuing CFA wouldn’t be for my current work. My work doesn’t qualify for relevant experience. I won’t stay at this company forever (it’s a tiny company of 5-10 people) so I just want to build up some knowledge and qualification in finance for a few years.

I went to a Japanese botanical garden to photograph cherry blossoms today. This kind of relaxation times will soon be over … Anyone knows how long it takes for Schweser to send out their notes? After I made the order there has been no confirmation emails at all.

(One of the photos I took this week cheeky thought you guys might like the real hot chick

What did you study at uni Mojo? Maybe there are sections you can skip in the curriculum

i study international business and economics

I’m not much of a studier so I need to get a lot of other activites in to keep me going. I work, play hurling (an irish sport) March to October, martial arts October to March, take photos, ride motorbikes, run a small motorbike based childrens charity, am treasurer of my hurling club, spend lots of time with my 7 month old son and wife.

When I have looked after all the other parts of my life studying is not the chore it otherwise would be, it becomes almost enjoyable.

you make life sound fun.

OMG! How many exams have you passed so far? Admirable…

Only just started a postgraduate certificate in finance (basically the first 4 core subjects of Masters of Business in Finance). This semester I’m doing Financial Management (this is an introductory subject in corporate finance) and Capital Markets. Next semester (March to June next year) will be Economics and Accounting.

Alladin life is supposed to be fun, there is no point in trying to progress a career if you’re not going to enjoy your life. I tend to luck for a bit of fun in everything I do, it keeps me sane. Even presentations to the Board run a lot better if you can add a bit of fun.

Mojo just passed level 1, will start level 2 in a couple of weeks, looking forward to getting stuck into it.

lockheed what’s wrong with russian ladies?

yes laugh blush

eoin is my new idol

your wife must appreciate the time you still spend with her and the son yes yes yes

Now you see why I talk about CFA at the bar

Not yet, but I have hope! I actually did have a gorgeous girl get fascinated by the talk of arithmetic vs geometric mean ha ha. It seems I may have better luck in this thread!

Sayyy Gurl, u got so much excess kurtosis.

They break you. Whatever money you have, they break you. And they don’t smile much. They are cold. I’ll stick to the former eastern bloc ladies. They are more like the Irish. More fun to play with.

Why wouldn’t pretty girls at the bar take interest in future wallstreet guys? wink
