When do you submit work experience for CFAI approval?

If you have significantly more than 4 years of WE, at what point in the process can you get it approved as qualifying for the charter by CFAI? Do you have to submit it for approval only after passing L3, or can this part be done earlier? Thanks

I already did it now and it was approved as I’m trying to join my local society. I am a level II candidate

Thanks for the response willispierre. In the interim I did a little research and found that out on the CFA website. Are you based in Chicago? I notice that you went to the GSB.
