When you're studying (for the CFA) you end up...

Maybe some of you are disciplined with studying, but I know I’m not. So, when you’re studying (for the CFA), what are some of the other things that you end up doing instead? For me: 1. I’m on AF… When I’m binging on studying, I end up here because I have no life. 2. Play spider solitaire. My win percentage is 20% so it’s a constant battle for me. One time, I just kept pressing the “hint” function, and found out that the game cannot solve itself. I declare myself spider-solitaire-challenged. 3. Zone out and/or think about esoteric things. One time, I had an “epiphany” that Fabio’s “I can’t believe it’s not butter!” isn’t really a good thing. If it’s not butter, than what is it? Is it boar slime? Am I gonna fail the test because I keep thinking about stupid crap? How about you?

I end up feeling “sick” around this time of the year. Not in the sense that I am skipping work, but just that sick feeling in your stomach that something bad is about to happen.

I’ve got some sort of blind confidence this go around - I feel less prepared than previously but more confident. These test mess with your state of mind.

You know, honestly, I think this is the last time I’m going to sit for a CFA exam. If I don’t make it this time, I don’t think it’s for me.

What level you writing CP and how many times have you sat? This will be my first level 2 attempt and feeling grossly underprepared. I know I need to give it my all these last days but it feels like a losing battle

4th time sitting for LIII. Took 3x to get out of LII, once out of LI

^For serious?! You’re on the last leg! CFA results don’t expire, so maybe you need to take a year off and then try again so that you don’t go completely insane. Don’t quit! If you were taking LI for the 4th time, it would be different, but LIII? Only a matter of time. I remember when I saw the interview of John F. Kennedy Jr. after he failed the bar twice, and when the reporters were needling him about failing and when he thinks he’s gonna pass, he said “Hopefully, I’ll pass it in July,” and vowed to keep taking the exam “until I’m 95.”

Don’t fool yourself - LIII isn’t a walk in the park. Yes it’s the last exam, but the pass rates should tell you that it’s not guaranteed. (Well, when I started taking LIII the pass rates were always >60%, notice that last year they dropped below 50% for the first time)

I take a break every hour, and alternate my breaks in-between smoking a cigarette and jerking off. No lie.

  1. Checking out AF, Facebook and my emails 2. I dont know WHY while studying for any hard exam, alllll bad memories and negative angry thoughts start coming to my mind :-/ maybe because of the psychological pressure of the exam. There should honestly be a psycho-therapist specialised just for CFA candidates :stuck_out_tongue: I would really need him/her lol

^^^^ Lol 2. is so true.

what is your obsession with spider solitaire ocean mist?

Constantly checking e-mail, online newspapers/economist, facebook, and stock market. God level 2 can be boring!!

Started 6-7 months before the exam, probably ended up studying over 600 hours for each of the 3 levels, but it got the job done. I sacrificed 2 years, but don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Sadly, I put in the 250+ each year. This year, I’m going the lazy route and maybe put in 200.

Ditto That’s why I get so much more done when I drag myself to the library and force myself to leave the laptop at home. Plus all the university libraries here are full of other candidates, once you’ve started talking to a couple, it helps keep you on track. The guys I study with always ask why I’m leaving so early if I try and cop out and leave so I study more because no one wants to leave first :stuck_out_tongue:

I usually end up playing Brickbreaker on my BB. My score on BB is inversely proportional to my chances of passing (AKA ITS PRETTY DANG HIGH)
