Where to learn more about different areas in investment banking and how they are related?

A little about myself: I’m a fresh graduate with Bachelor’s in Business and currently preparing for my CFA Level 3 Exam. What kind of websites do you guys use to learn more about the world of finance/investment banking? In some job posting I’ve seen, they ask you which area you would like to apply and the list goes like this: Investment banking Sales & Trading (Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange & Equities) Equity Research Finance Middle Office / Operation I really hope to learn how each of these area is related and how an investment firm is operated. I’m also interested to know what exactly people do in these areas. (How their day goes by.) Also, employers ask questions such as “Why are you interested in Equity Analysis?” and I’m wondering what you guys, especially those without work experiences, answer this kind of question. I find myself having trouble providing reasons as to why I’m interested in a specific area, especially as a fresh graduate I’m willing to try almost anything as long as I can get my foot in the door. Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Browse through vault.com If your school provides you a login then you can download their industry specific pdf’s that have a 100 or so pages on what each industry is all about

For Corporate Finance: http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/ http://aswathdamodaran.blogspot.com/ IMO, he’s the best and you can literally take his class online for free. I listened to his valuation and CF class. For LBO and M&A: http://www.amazon.com/Investment-Banking-Valuation-Leveraged-Acquisitions/dp/0470442204/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1287201359&sr=8-1 It’s not that expensive and useful. For PE: http://www.theprivateequiteer.com/ I think s/he doesn’t post anymore, but it still has a lot of great post. For Investment banking: http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/ I really don’t know anything else, except this website. For HF: Search “Bromian” For Equity Research: Search “NUMI” Well, that’s all from me.

Thanks a lot for the replies! dhyun3, is NUMI a career service provider? That’s what I got from typing equity research and numi in google. Anyone cares to offer opinions about it? I have never gotten any solid reviews on resume & cover letters before and although he mentions that he charges lower than other ones, the price still seems very steep to me. =(
