So if you were A-rod, how much would you pay Boras for losing you ~ $20MM and making you look like a giant Douche? Can’t wait to see the reaction when he steps up to the plate in Yankee stadium… Ever notice that whenever a big time agent tries to make a move like Boras did with A-rod, or like Drew Rosenhaus did with T.O. it never works and it takes years for the player’s image to recover? (not that that was the only thing hurting T.O…)
As much as I fault Boras, A-Rod is a big boy and could of stopped things. He would of been better off not opting out. Now the Yanks hold all the leverage and will probably get a good deal out of it…
Are we forgetting that Boras was the guy that got him his first huge deal? The only difference this time was that no one was willing to make the same mistake. The guy is a tool and did a huge disservice to ARod, but to say the big-time agents never work is a stretch.
Yes, T.O.'s image problem was due to the fact that he went contract hunting…
"As much as I fault Boras, A-Rod is a big boy and could of stopped things. He would of been better off not opting out. " Sure, he is a “Big Boy”, but it’s tough to turn down an extra $100MM when someone you trust who claims that he knows the market, will assure you that you can get it. Incredible baseball player or not, he’s still only human. “Are we forgetting that Boras was the guy that got him his first huge deal? The only difference this time was that no one was willing to make the same mistake. The guy is a tool and did a huge disservice to ARod, but to say the big-time agents never work is a stretch.” Well, I guess what I’m saying is they are good at getting you that first contract, which typically, a star like A-Rod deserves becase they’re still on their rookie contract and have proven themselves so it’s time to get paid like a big timer… Does A-Rod deserve that “$250MM Contract” because he had Boras as his agent or does he deserve it because in 5-7 years we could very easily be arguing whether or not he was the best baseball player in history. An agent is like a broker or banker who gets the deal done. In the end, A-rod was and is going to get paid what people are willing to pay for an athlete of his caliber; therefore, if baseball markets were efficient, it really wouldn’t matter who his agent was. “Yes, T.O.'s image problem was due to the fact that he went contract hunting…” Well, when A-Rod went contract hunting he didn’t talk trash about his teammates and do sit-ups in front of his 13,000 SF house to show off to the press. So yes, the major image problems did come from contract seeking but it was more the “how” than the “what”. Come on, T.O. claimed that Jaff Garcia was gay in a playboy interview, you don’t see A-Rod doing that. (Although there was all the drama about the fact that he and Jeter quit having sleepovers…)
That was my point; his “personality” would have turned people off even if he was still playing for the niners. The fact that he went contract hunting was a coincidental to people disliking him.
Sorry, couldn’t detect your sarcasm…
