I am relatively new in the forum. I have just passed CFA L2 (this was my third attempt) and I am receiving advice from all corners to take FRM L 1 since the FRM 1 syllabus and CFA is overlapping. Is it so?
I just wanted to know whether I have enough time ? Will it affect my CFA Level 3 preparartion ?
Actually, I am working full time and cant afford more than 1 week leave in Nov and have two kids to manage too …
I just passed CFA Level 2 and going through Schweser for FRM part 1. I might be wrong but for part 1 it seems like 70% overlaps with both Level 1 and 2, though it looks like it will be tested more extensively on quants topics than on CFA (i hope i didn’t violate exam disclosure rule here). So if you still have a good memory on Level 1 then you will be able to go through the material quite quick, plus it would help getting up to speed on VaR.
From what I can see there will be some pretty good overlap. Mostly quant methods, CAPM, APT and financial markets and products like BSM, Binomial trees, swaps, futures, options, and basic hedging strategies.
So to answer your question, it depends why you failed L2. If it had anything to do with equity, econ, alt inv, FRA…I would say no. If it was from the above stated topics, it will help.
