Yeah but the premium of the Hamptons is at least partly justified. In Florida you’re basically surrounded by trash and old people, Carolinas slightly less so but generally less character, social life, or whatever. Hamptons you’re surrounded by a certain rich beachy / rustic culture that people with that kind of money value. Hampton’s has extremely restrictive zoning laws that make building large homes or developing difficult and yet large swaths of private beach front have become an impossible commodity. Same reason people pay multiples for a house in Aspen vs Big Sky or Austin vs Houston. Plus if you’re that loaded you can live that lifestyle and still hit Manhattan by chopper in 30 minutes.

I mean it’s definitely not for everyone and each billionaire has a different view of how they’d spend $175M but just adding some context to how some people that drink the cool aide would view it.

I hope the mansion on the other side of the water doesn’t have a dock with a green light on it.
