The president’s staff does the leg work. The president, in theory, just needs to manage good people and process lots of data. Ben’s management experience, head of large reputable departments, far outweighs the management experience of our current president prior to running. But, I do agree it was irresponsible to elect Obama.
Executive experience is far more important than legislative. I think history shows that anyway.
There are no qualifications to be president except being able to win elections. Carson will not win, making the discussion about his qualifications moot IMO.
He strikes me as an unexceptional candidate. Sure he has a great life story, but I’m afraid that does not make a leader. All I see is a Dr Herman Cain.
Hmmm…sounds racist.
I like Douglas Adams’s summation best: (maybe paraphrasing here) “the most important quality in a President is the capacity to express finely judged outrage.” Presidents are never more powerful and adored as when forcefully talking about issues with an undertone of anger towards the injustice of it all.
In reality the President is first - very likeable (like all successful politicians), second - a good actor who appears to care and third - not too extreme. Not much else is required. Bush Jr was a failed businessman (after snorting coke in drunken orgies for decades); Obama was a community organizer; Reagan was an actor. (I don’t know what Clinton did before politicking.) Bush Sr was the exception, WWII pilot and CIA director.
Agree that Fiorina is horrible. Carson turns me off with his anti-gay stupidity. I still think I am going to sit this one out.
So Lindsey Graham just officially entered the GOP race. I won’t pretend I actually know much about him, but I’d have a really hard time voting for a guy named Lindsey.

$100 bucks says this dude plays dress up in the closet when no one is watching.
Need to define in what era. I’m pretty sure some of history’s great presidents wouldn’t win today. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the criteria has changed over time with technology/media/etc.
yeah, but I’d much rather have a guy named Lindsey than a girl named Hillary He’s pretty good, but I don’t think he could get the votes.
why?
Would you vote for this guy in 2016??
Dude was an Air Force colonel called Lindsey. Do you realize how tough this mofo must be?
^^^Dat moose knuckle.
I like Trump too. Just announced.
Bernie Sanders
Trump had potential at one time, but his insistance on questioning President Obama’s birthplace put him out on Wacko Island in my view.
Yes!
Donald Trump had absolutely no potential, except for being late night comedy fodder.
