The problem is there is limited time and we all face this problem. Nothing on L3 is rocket science but it’s a lot of material. Who has time to do BB/EOC 5 times?? Jesus!
Which BB is more important, what is not? Marc will tell you: saves time.
Is the EOC even important for L3? Marc will tell you: saves time.
Which of the past 10 years of exam questions are worthless and don’t do? Marc will tell you: saves time. He made a huge binder, you don’t even have to go on google to hunt it down and print them all out yourself. Saves more time.
If you go to Omaha, it’s much much cheaper, Windsor Week, that’s expensive and not worth the time to dollar to value ratio. My 2 cents. Don’t listen to me, if you don’t pass, your regret not mine. Just trying to help before it’s too late for most people…bc of LIMITED TIME.
You can make $$$$$ later in life, passing L3 and being done is kind of Priceless in getting your freedom/life back, at least to me.
If you want it bad you have to pay for it. If you don’t want to thats fine. Candidates have passed level 3 with and without Marcs help. Do whatever you are comfortable with, and what ever you think would work for you.
If doing BB EOC and Mocks 5 times works for you, then do it. If going to Marc’s helps go for it. Why are people so concerned about the money they didn’t spend.
Everything is important. Don’t try to game the system - you will lose. KNOW EVERYTHING.
Yes, they’re important. Don’t need Marc to tell you that…
I knew the material so well by the time I was taking past years’ mocks that when I ran across a question that was no longer part of the curriculum, I knew it and just skipped it. That’s how well you need to know the material. And it took less than 5 minutes to find past years’ mocks back to 2007…
Needing Marc to hold your hand through this wreaks of insecurity and laziness. What a waste of money. It’s simple, study harder than the guy next to you and you will pass. This test is about who is willing to bust their ass for 6 months+ to know the material inside and out, not who can spend the most money on prep providers/boot camps.
Do whatever you want. If you can do it all without anybody helping you, that’s great. If L3 is becoming overwhelmingly, get help somewhere, anywhere, before it’s too late.
Even top golf pros have coaches to help them perform at their best.
I’m just a sign in the middle of the road for people who might be lost and need some direction.
If you’re perfectly confident you know what you’re doing on L3, ignore it. Don’t stop other people who need help fr getting help. If you work full time, have kids/family obligations, have more discretionary income, think you might end up Band 9/10 and need more push, leverage Marc to help you. It’s simple.
When you’re young, you have time, no money.
When you’re old, you have money n no time. Classic life choices, like men who refuse to stop for direction or to use GPS when lost.
If some people go and pass, it will be worth dealing with all the Negative Nancy comments on AF…
Haha whatever man. Hopefully I’ve saved someone from wasting their money and made them realize that there’s no easy way out. You have to learn the material inside and out, and you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on a tutor to do that. You just need to put in the work.
Who’s in for Magician’s new The Oracle of CFA skype bootcamps?
go for it man. you have helped alot in here and in your website. I can say that 20% of the value of this forum is from your high quality contributions.
Just curious but how did you determine whether it was wasting money or not? Did you attend?
If he does what has been claimed and provides an edge to those individuals and gives them that last leg up in the race, i guess im just not understanding where you could state that it was a complete waste of time, money, and reeks of laziness and insecurity. To me rather, it would be like leaving no stone unturned…but i digress…
IMO, there’s no scenario where it would make sense to spend thousands of dollars on a “bootcamp”. If you are underprepared going into it, then it will not be your saving grace (as people that even strongly advocate it will admit). If you are almost there or well prepared going into it, then you don’t need it. Look up a few videos on AM test-taking strategy, download past years’ mocks back to 2007, work ALL of them until you know it cold and you will pass (ok maybe not guaranteed but neither is it guaranteed if you go to the bootcamp). Now, if you want to pay me $3k, I can put all of this material in a packet for you, give you a review schedule and tell you everything is going to be OK.
im sure that there is some value add otherwise he wouldnt have branched off and started his own business. i know some people, whom i trust, that have attended and said that they got alot out of it.
since you are basing this off your opinion, and you didnt attend, then i cant really get on board with this line of reasoning. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. my company is paying for me to go so im going to give it a shot. i studied my ass off and im not looking for a short cut…but i would like some direction on these last few weeks and maybe he can help hone some things in and provide that last bit of motivation before (god willing) this shit is over and done with.
RE: “Haha whatever man. Hopefully I’ve saved someone from wasting their money and made them realize that there’s no easy way out. You have to learn the material inside and out, and you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on a tutor to do that. You just need to put in the work.”
You state, “You just need to put in the work.” OMG! What an insight and revelation – I never considered this perspective. Your position is therefore that if you “put in the work” you will pass. The problem with this observation is the very real fact that many, many people “put in the work” and yet still fail. Your retort might then be (1) you failed, so prima facie you didn’t put in the work ; or (2) you failed, and you put in the work and didn’t handle AM stress on exam day; or (3) you failed, so your put massive work on the wrong thing.
Marc’s camps never start from the premise that everyone is there to START studying. NOOOOO!! Rather, the premise is that people who come have in fact put in a fair number of hours, have indeed “put in the work.” I went to his camp and worked with people there who had already broken down the curriculum into encyclopedic notes and were exchanging teaching moments with each other, many who knew the curriculum so well that they engaged in debate with Marc about ambiguities and issues in AM questions and in the BBs and EOCs, some who in fact had been through the curriculum SEVEN times and were still there at the camp! Why? Great athletes will call the process “tapering,” where they organize their training with a better sense of focus, timing, and on what matters most to reach the podium . Anyone who has ever “put in the time” at LIII knows that they will tear their hair out at some of the CFAI absudities and contradictory examples and explanations. Working through the equations and arguments with Marc in respect of these other dauting issues (reverse butterly strangles, and when to use them and why . . . .anyone?) provides key – and memorable – templates that infuse this material into your brain with clarity and confidence.
So, in sum, Marc’s course ensures that (1) you are putting in the RIGHT work (he has been doing this for 10 years and re-reads the curriculum every year and KNOWS how to get you right with this stuff) so that “just putting in the work” becomes more efficient than if you sat in a loft on your own thinking that if you can answer the EOCs that you’re all good (you aren’t!); (2) your stress level in the AM will be reduced and you will save hugely valuable minutes because you get a very well-designed method of approaching the very high point IPS and Institutional questions that always appear; and (3) you will work on – or be directed to – high point testing material.
Even people who believe that they have “put in the time” can never know – ahead of time – that they really did “put in the time.” Marc’s camp is SEAL-training for LIII is, actually, a core component for anyone who wants to really believe that they have “put in the time.” And, finally, because the people who attend the camp are so motivated and very smart you get the advantage of different perspectives, questions, study tools and exam expeirences that you could never generate on your own allegedly “putting in the time.” Marc’s camp are a different and highly valuable means of “putting in the time” and so if “putting in the time” is the difference maker, then go to the camp.
