Who's the smartest...

man on the board, excluding the owner that is? He profits from all the free content. Doesn’t get much smarter than that. I really don’t have a clue. Haven’t noticed a stand out. That’s probably because the truly smart don’t post much, if at all.

Based solely on the thoughtfulness of the posts, I’d have to vote for S2000, Ohai, BChad, or Mobius Strip. (I’d add Destroyer of Worlds on there, but he posts a lot less “academic” stuff and more “philosophical” stuff.)

But then again, they could just be really good at googling stuff and cut-and-pasting other people’s thoughts.

I’d put BS above those names on raw horsepower, but his lower eq acts as a restricter plate. geo is probably up there as well, he just hasn’t developed it enough to be a stand-out.

Shhhhhh!

JDV

There is only one answer to this question. It’s JDV. He was as good an academician as a practitioner. Everyone else is either-or.

Anyone who answers someone else either hasn’t read JDV’s stuff or lacks judgment.

This is the first time I’ve been called out for my philosophical sophistry not counting as academic in nature. Fantastic!

This guy? http://www.analystforum.com/forums/water-cooler/91307704

JDV is definitely at the top of the list or at least in the top three, depending on how you count things.

I have no issue with putting him at the top, although the post probably asks about currently and-or recently active posters. JDV seems to have gone the way of Jimmy Hoffa.

DoW is also a prime candidate, I think, with a nice mix of academically informed and practical advice, with philosophical commentary. I like his posts, especially now that he’s mellowed his tone a touch.

Ghibli, I think that that JDV was an imposter account, there was a copycat later that was spelled slightly different, I can’t remember which was which.

Lmao man JDV must wish he had an opposite view of NFLX then. Fund I did work with had a short of NFLX with a cost basis in the like 200’s pre split… ouch.

JDV and CSK are about equal but both are VERY slanted towards the quant side bias that exists here. So they could possibly be the smartest.

I figure Ohai can’t be too dumb based on what I can surmise about his salary and numi did the whole ivy league thing while BChad has a PhD.

I’m sure there are other people I’m missing. I was in a masters program that was pretty difficult and worked in cohort format with about twenty some people in it, so we spent a lot of time together. Everyone had very different backgrounds and areas of strength. During that time was when I really began to realize just how many different formats and brands intelligence comes in. There were a handful that were at the top, but who would be ranked at the top would have clearly depended on the scenario otherwise you were just debating apples and oranges.

Yeah some people have the lenses to see a fire.

There are other Ph.D. people here. The best thing about being a Ph.D. is that you can use it as a noun and tell people “Trust me, I’m a doctor. Your philosophy is in good hands.”

People I believe have Ph.Ds here include: JDV, S2000, DoW, BusProf. There are a few others that I am forgetting, plus a bunch of ABD types who are coming to finance after realizing that academe is a strange place that is unsure of its purpose in a post-Cold War post-Internet world (interesting how the ‘post-’ prefix means “the end of X” in one case and “the start of X” in the other).

You’ll note that most of us Ph.D. types rarely bring it up in conversation or use it as a “I am more knowledgeable than you” cudgel. To the extent that the knowledge is relevant, we just use it, and Ph.D.s are generally pretty careful about not claiming expertise outside of the area that they were trained (although they will claim the ability to think and use logic more clearly). The reason a Ph.D. is a doctor of “philosophy” rather than “physics” or “economics” or “history” is because it trains you in epistemology, or “how is it that you know you know what you know. Or ‘what data is required to assert that something is proven or supported, vs. just an opinion or hypothesis.’”

Dude what does mine say? Dude! What does mine say? Sweet!

ACE, you’re too dear. Are you fishing for a hug?

this is my guess on IQ heres:

>150-(S2000 and Mobius Striptease)

145-150-(DOW,Bchad)

140-145-(MLA, Ohai)

135- (GEO, Black Swan, Numi)

130-(Higgmond, Palantir, Chad)

<120-(Nerdyblop, Igor)

No PhD here, alas.

BA Accounting, BA, MA Mathematics.

I would love to get a PhD in Mathematics: algebraic topology.

Perhaps one of these days, in my CFT.

This is not bad at all, but what on Earth is with your 150+ selections?? Also where is your <90 section? Hehe.
