Bobby Jindal for 2016?
I wouldn’t count out Romney for a third run…kidden. I believe Christie is the front runner and has been actively running for at least the last year (see hurricane sandy – and please don’t give me the I love NJ bs).
Also, Republicans need to understand the hispanic community a little better because if they did they would realize that there’s a big difference between Cuban Americans and the rest of the Latin American community. They have a different story entirely, the ones in the US now are essentially descendents of the upper class (Republican types) in Cuba that lost power to Castro. While they certaintly don’t like Castro they also don’t like the power structure in place before he took power.
Outside of Miami, there are only two meaningful blocks of Hispanic voters in the US, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans (and Puerto Ricans aren’t really all that meaningful except in the greater NYC area). I am not aware of any republicans of Mexican heritage who currently hold a relevant office beside Brian Sandoval (governor of NV).
Edit: I forgot Susana Martinez, gov. of NM, who would kill two birds with one stone as a VP choice.
Susan Martinez is Mexican and shoudl run as VP or top of the ticket. Great speech at the convention.
George P. Bush could become an interesting option in 2020 or 2024 if he decides to enter political life. Enough time will have passed since uncle GW that he won’t be handicapped by the relationship and he has some nice pre-politics credentials (including a Mexican mother). You heard it here first.
Condoleezza Rice and Susana Martinez in 2016!!! Republicans will be able to boast the first African-American president (people seem to forget that BO’s mother is a white farm girl), the first female president, the first female vice president, and the first hispanic vice president. Old white guys will just stay home, so the election will be decided by women and minority groups.
The elected President is likely going to have a large influence on the future of abortion through Supreme Court appointments. Everyone knew this.
oops double post
I’ll just use this to make a prediction then. Christie is going to pull a Huckabee and drop 100+ pounds over the next two years in preparation for his 2016 run.
You overestimate the US electorate. The average man on the street had no idea that the future composition of the Supreme Court was the most important “issue” at stake on election day. 20 years from now, President Obama will still have 4-5 appointees sitting on the Supreme Court. He will have the most significant impact on the court of any president since Ike.
I bet you five burritos that most US people don’t even know how Supreme Court Justices are appointed. People vote in Presidential elections based on how they can relate to the candidate himself - less so than what they think the candidate will be able to do if elected.
^ no way I’m taking the other side of that bet.
guys… can we really put obama and romney’s resumes up to eachother and pick obama over romney?
Romney’s competence and ability to take in massive amounts of data and make a decision would put obama to shame…
He should have gone outright and said he is not going to touch abortion, and then continued on by informing people of the amount of data a president must be able to compute, and explain how his background vs. obama’s background makes giving him the job of president a no brainer.

Care to back up this statement? “take in massive amounts of data and make a decision”? WTF?
Unless you seem to think that PE experience is qualification for the presidency? I know we worship FO roles on this forum, but seriously?

agreed. Seriously people, if you gave every voter a simple 1 page non-multiple test on a lot of basics of govt, the stupidity would shock and amaze you. People see their candidate, catch on to a few ideas they like/dislike, see how convincing the candidate sounded, and pretty much vote.
Then combine that with a ton of mis-information out there.
Look at George Bush junior getting re-elected. He didn’t know what he was doing, but he sure sounded like he did. That and Kerry looked like a corpse.
I can’t speak to the “take in massive amounts of data” comment, but there really is no comparison between their resumes, at least if you compare prior to Obama becoming president.

obama cared for poor people…what a loser…USA! USA!

But think about what Bill Clinton did. He cut free govt benefits, and it got people off their butts and more of them working, this is what happened. Are you saying he didn’t care about poor people? Not at all.
Romney is basically a superhuman. The things that he has done for himself are unbelievable. The question is whether or not you agree with his values.
But subjective things aside, there are a few things that everyone can agree on. For instance, employment must go up, growth must increase, debt must go down. If I had to choose one person who would look at this check list and nail everything in four years, it would be Romney. He is the kind of guy who you might not like personally, but who would accomplish these goals at any cost.
Of course, my priority list right now is 90% economy, 10% everything else. So maybe if you prioritize gay marriage or something like that, you might have different preferences.
