This happens a lot when people are in Philly without knowing the city or having someone who knows the hot spots to show them around. The cool districts are all spread around and localized so you’re basically cab hopping. It’s a great city and frequently rated one of the best to live with the largest under 30 population (by percentage) of any major US city. It has a very vibrant night life. It does have its sketchy areas, it’s just that visitors notice them more because they’re scattered throughout in pockets rather than all relgated to a giant ghetto on the outskirts or something. For me it’s pretty awesome, although I’m pretty biased.
#3 Best places to go in the world in 2015 by NY Times (Behind Cuba and Milan)
Defining moment: Falling head over heels for the vegan menu at the elegant Vedge restaurant, featuring a whole roasted carrot transformed into a marvelous meatless “Reuben.”
For a brief moment after reading that, I think I liked men.
It’s definitely worse in a lot of other places, but still can be infuriating here and women are by far the worst offenders. I get run off the sidewalk walking towards pairs of women all the time because they’ll talk and walk side by side (sometimes three abreast) just expecting everybody to move. About once a year they’ll catch me in the right mood and I’ll just lower a shoulder and let things play out.
^^ as a women, I HATE it when people do this. I am always aware of my surroundings when in conversation. Oblivious people are a huge pet peeve of mine. I love to walk fast, even in heels. I also like to hike up the escelator. I don’t have the patiencs to stand there and wait.
I was thinking the exact same thing. It has a lot of great little pockets that are unfortunately often separated by pretty bad areas. Not sure why that is exactly, but you could be walking along a street with great shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, etc., 3 blocks later you run the risk of being a chalk outline on the sidewalk, but if you make it through you’re back into a nice area again.
^ the gentleman’s club scene is, of course, pretty good here. The best would be Delilahs or Risque on the Delaware… maybe Cheerleaders. Stay AWAY from Oasis, Show and Tell, Gold Club… ick! I can barely mention them
There are some times when you have to run. Like, when I was flying internationally over spring break this year and got off in a different terminal 1hr late on a 30min connection to board in the other terminal. You’re damn right I ran. I made it. I had a bunch of connections after that and running was the only option. Yeah, they would have gotten me a hotel if I missed it as their plane was late, but I’m not dealing with all of that.
This comment actually got a literal LOL from me (which is rare for an introvert). Good one, BS!
I feel bad though. I enjoyed the presence of PA on here. He had some obnoxious ideals but they were so extreme I found it amusing. There is no proof his trrade blew up and until I have proof, I give him the benefit of doubt. PA lives!
If I happen to end up staying in the U.S I will definitely consider a period living in philly. As much as I hated it, and as homo as it may sound I actually cried walking up the Rocky steps at night and went into the trouble of finding the house Rocko used to live in Rocky1.Philly was like watching a very sad and yet profound movie,I never forget having breakfast in the hotel while seeing this dude literally sorting through the trash outside looking for food. All I can say about philly is that it’s one weird city for me.The food wasn’t that great though,I checked online for decent restaurants and most were OK but not that good. The best beer I had though was across the old Philadelphia prison in this weird looking pub without walls.
