Why Nations Fail

Anybody read the book by Acemogelu?

I think he’s spot on

his blog is below

I read it and liked it, but I’m not sure how much it added to what I already thought about the world. Perhaps it made me more of a pragmatist. I also liked McCloskey’s Bougeouis Dignity or Bougeouis Virtues (can’t remember which is closer to Acemogelu’s topic, but one of them I read and one of them I haven’t yet) and Clark’s A Farewell to Alms, which both similar ground without necessarily always agreeing with each other.

Better question: what am I doing up on AF at this ungodly hour?

I havent read any of this. But one of the (probably many reasons), especially today is when a nation is made up of too many groups or sects, or wahtever you want to call it.

its one of those things you intuitively know but this puts it in a nice framework with some evidence

I read only half of the book, so maybe my evaluation is probably unfair. He clearly has a certain ideology, and he repeated his main argument a lot. However, I don’t necessarily disagree with most of what he says.
