Does anyone know who the Wiley live virtual classroom instructors are for L2 this year?
I asked Wiley and they said it’s the same instructors that do the video lectures. However, I have a hard time believing that since the Wiley customer service folks are a wealth of mis-information… and I remember reading that other instructors did the live lectures last year.
I’ve taught the classes the last two years, and was expecting to be teaching them this year as well. I shot off an e-mail to the powers that be at Wiley to ascertain the particulars.
Officially, Wiley has "decided to move in a different direction this year, given some of the feedback [they] received in [their] annual surveys around the Level II class.
If you’re talking about Darren Degraaf, I have to tell you that he’s a good friend (we’ve known each other since my Stalla days, back in '08), and in a live classroom he’s a great instructor. There’s something a bit . . . I don’t know . . . eerie about teaching online (or, in a similar vein, doing videos); there’s no (or, at least, little) direct feedback from the students, so it’s a very different experience than having a live class. Some instructors are great in one setting, and awful in the other, while some are great in both. (Truth be told, I’m sure that some are awful in both.)
I don’t know whether Darren’s going to be doing Level II for Wiley, sticking with Level I, or what. In any case, I wish him and Wiley the best.
That’s helpful to know. And I definitely didn’t mean anything against him personally; I just struggle with him in the videos while the other guys have been great. I’ll give whoever is teaching the virtual classroom lectures a shot but I do hope you will consider doing your own classes at some point. Thanks for finding out and getting back to me so quick.
There was definitely a profound disappointment when some of us that signed up expecting the Magi found out we were getting a replacement. Forjan seems knowledgeable and all, no slight against him but my cohort definitely was hoping for you, S2K.
If you mean Jim Forjan, I had the pleasure of working with him when I was the Level III curriculum manager at Stalla; Jim was one of our subject matter experts (and may have taught classes for Stalla as well; I don’t recall). I don’t recall Jim’s area of expertise as that was 8 years ago, but I do recall him being very intelligent, and a nice guy.
Will he be teaching all of the classes, or will Wiley be using different instructors for different subject matter areas?
@S2000, my understanding is that he is taking L2 all the way through. Seems to be a nice guy and knowledgeable (I mean…We covered ethics so I guess the jury is out until the material gets more intensive). Our cohort was/is pretty close to DeGraaf and I’m always impressed by how favorably you all speak of each other. Extremely professional. Having daily interactions with DD and done an Olinto boot camp, I’ve gotten a decent flavor for what is out there and overall I’ve been impressed by the folks I’ve come across.
I guess you’re stuck having us bend your ear in here. I was on your site and we may reach out to you for some of that focused hourly tutoring you offer by Skype. Any areas you’d suggest that for (in a vacuum of course)?
