Wolf of Wall Street

I’m sure most of you have read about the upcoming Scorsese movie “Wolf of Wall Street”. I’m sure it will be entertaining, but won’t this take away some of the remaining respect held with wall street?

There is no respect for Wall Street. And sadly, it is probably rightly so. Even as someone who works in finance I dislike 90% of things that come out of or are associated with WS, so imagine what the lay person must think.

Alas, there is great dislike for wall street these days. The industry has been made a scapegoat for everything, even the housing collapse.

Somehow it’s the fault of wall street that people with no credit and no ability to pay off anything somehow feel they can go and get loans to buy big houses. And then wonder why there was a collapse .

Compounded the fact of the scandals like Madoff.

You 1%ers on Wall Street make me sick! M’n’A’in on the Buyside, Models and Bottles at Cain, makin’ it rain at Scores, and so forth. You are the epitome of everything that is wrong with the world. You and your fancy top 2 MBAs, CFAs, 800 GMATs, and BSDs.

The 99%ers are getting tired of our bloody voids where our sack used to be. We work long and hard to make a decent living while you elitist have it made.

Fck Wall Street. Despite my Hate for WB, at least he was bright enough to avoid the cespool of the FiDi of NYC.

And fck Jordan Belfort! Fcking criminal rips off all of his clientel, gets less than 2 years in a country club prison, and now is capitalizing on it in by explaining how he conducted his crimes in his books, seminars, and now movie. And they say crime doesn’t pay! If I do see this movie, I’m going to buy a ticket for different movie yet watch it to avoid giving JB any sort of revenue. I did likewise for the Michael Moore movies I saw.

I’m going to go clean my colon now.

To all of those who are married - maybe its for the best for your significant other not to watch. Provided you all are ethical people, its probably not worth the possibility (or stress) of starting up the crazy idea that all financiers are coke/working girl addicts.

Who cares what everyone else thinks. Let them pine over the ethical virtue of being a social worker with a 30k salary and a 30 hr work week.

I read the book when it came out. it was mildly entertaining, but the writing is pretty bad and JB is clearly full of himself, that got a bit old after awhile. The ‘wolf of wall street’ is a bit misleading - this guy had a sleazy brokerage firm on Long Island, in Lake Success, I think, just east of queens. The section on the Steve Madden trade was pretty good.

It’s a Scorsese film and has Leo DiCaprio in the lead role so it’s bound to be good.

As for the street, yeah it has gotten a bad rep in the past few years. When I started my BBA back in '05, I did so with the sole intention of working on the street one day. But things have changed since then and even though I never really supported the ‘Occupy’ movement, I can see how the everyday man would make of this situation. Not to mention, every few months you get the news of a major financial insitution involved in some fraud. It’s quite disheartning really.

Yeah, the book was pretty ridiculous. You could tell he didn’t regret any his decisions, and talking about his kids felt completely forced, as if we should respect him as a human for those little blurbs. Fuck belfort.

Still gonna watch it though, cause Leo’s da bomb.

edit: Jon Favreau’s in it too! woo.

just hope it’s better than this POS looking film

for a minute I thought this was the movie you were talking about

When will this movie be released? I would like to see it, but I’ll buy a ticket for hunger games or alladin or some sht to give Jordan B none of the sale.

When is this bad boy coming out? It’s not been a good year for movies so far.

Seeing movie now…stay tuned

Speaking of movies, just saw Sling blade for the first time ( I know, hard to believe). It has made my classic list.

Can’t believe Billy Bob Thornton was on top of the world at the time: directing and acting a classic while banging Angelie Jolie. Times have changed.

Well, how is it?

Wall street made a scapegoat, and an unwitting victim of bad mortgage granting practices, please tell it to the marines lol

So bad I can’t believe it’s Scorsese.

It’s not a bad movie but its definitely not enough to satisfy hardcore finance guys. The whole movie is like one big party. A few jewels sprinkled in here and there like when Belfort taught the guys how to pitch. But overall the movie is about entertaining action and non stop craziness.
