World Cup 2018

Jogi must be offering his resignation any day now. Insipid performance.

Hopefully!!

if he gets fired the US should hire him immediately.

they came out and backed him the other day so in football language that means he’ll be sacked within the week.

This English talk of ‘momentum’ and trying to engineer a 2nd place finish in the group to secure the “easier” side of the draw is getting quite funny.

List of teams England have beaten in the last 4 world cups; Tunisia, Panama, Slovenia, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Ecuador

good luck getting past Japan, Senegal or Columbia. And even then, Sweden and Switzerland aren’t easy either.

Definitely – England needs to take it one step at a time and hasn’t faced a difficult team yet. I’d say it’s better for England to try winning the group now, to play Japan in the next round. Playing Colombia would be a tougher game.

Damn…heartattack and vine. :stuck_out_tongue:

that side of the draw really is opening up for Colombia

Croatia really didn’t play well at all. I’m hoping that was their bad match and they’ll spark into life again now. That performance against Argentina was one of the best team performances in the tournament and Modric really is a genius. Imagine how good he’s be if he managed to get off the smack

Yep. Fortunately neither Denmark with their Greek-like stupid style of football didn’t threaten. Rebic must score that goal in 114th minute instead of asking for penalty.

that side of the draw really is opening up for Colombia England

FTFY… :slightly_smiling_face:

^ the joke was that everyone is saying it has opened up for England

I know – there’s so much talk about England getting far (irrational football exuberance?), although Colombia will be tough opposition. They were impressive against (a pretty poor) Poland in the group.

Jogi is staying… I don’t know how. My thought is that Germany has a real leadership gap that is not being filled by Neuer and Hummels/Muller/Gomez (I don’t even count that gutless player Ozil in this) after Lahm and Schweini retired.

As well, Germany seems to have moved to opposite ends of the spectrum, in the past they have always relied on tactically and technically solid players with high work rates, and this year they relied on talent instead of graft. Curious how you feel about it Bremen.

Can you believe that England won a penalty shoot out? Hats off to Dier though, he wasn’t even supposed to take that penalty, Jamie Vardy was down to take it but he injured his groin right at the end of extra time so Dier stepped up to take it. and that’s after playing awfully as well.

I was almost supporting England after all the sh i thousery from Colombia, what a bunch of pr i cks.

Now it’s time for Sweden to step up, everyone is discounting them despite the fact that they beat France in qualifying, finished qualifying ahead of the Netherlands, knocked Italy out in the playoffs and then finished top of their group ahead of Mexico and Germany.

I think they’ll be fine against and English team who have only managed to score from open play in this tournament against Panama.

I actually have the Swedes taking it, any Englishman who thinks this will be a walk in the park is having a laugh. Admittedly Sweden isn’t the flashiest team but they have core competencies and they do them extremely well. England can barely score … it will probably go to shoot outs.

Got to say though, this WC has been fantastic to watch. There have only been 2 0-0s so far and as much as I’ll miss the old drama of football, I think VAR has been a success.

So the World Cup has become a mini-Euro 2018. Six teams remaining, all of them from Europe. Brazil wasted chances against Belgium today.

A Brasil built around Neymar is never going to win anything, the guy’s a flake. No idea how he gets into the top 3 for the ballon d’or, must just be hype.

I’m sure the English press will now start thinking they can win the whole thing as the favourites are out.

Congrats to referee who didn’t judge fake penalties. Cariocas are experts for those. I remember opening match on last WC.

France will take it all. Been saying that since i saw their group matches
