Yearly Changes to Level III Curriculum?

Hey guys, I tried searching for this but ran into a thousand threads, half of which were not relevant. I have a sneaky suspicion that I bombed the first half (AM) of the test, and was thinking of continuing to study my weak areas to be better prepared for next year (one of the reasons I wish the test was available in Dec to continue the momentum). Anyways, wondering if its worth it to do it, or should I wait given potential changes to the content/curriculum. Did anybody fail level 3 last year and apply this schedule/approach? Would hate to forge ahead, and then have a ton of the material/knowledge base change.

You know the IPS stuff is *probably* not going to change. Also, the tax stuff, while some of the LOS’s may change, the reading itself is not going away as they JUST added it. I think the econ stuff is the most volatile. They’ve changed it a lot in the 4 years I’ve been in LIII, so I’d look at that last.

Would you feel good about WASTING YOUR SUMMER studying for a test that you’re not going to take next year? At least wait two months…Jesus.

Hah, I didn’t mean to come across as super type A personality. I only studied for literally three weeks for this test, and while going through it, was pissed off I didn’t study more as much of the stuff wasn’t that hard. I know myself - should I just relax and chill for 3, 4, 6 months, I ain’t gonna study again until March or April - hell, maybe even May again. I actually feel like I know alot of the stuff decently well and have momentum and want to capitalize on it - I’m by no means overly eager to study, that’s for sure. But studying for an hour a day, while I feel like I understand the basics of each section, versus forgetting it and cramming again next spring…well, I’d rather do the former.

http://www.stalla.com/pdf/level3_10.pdf Few reading changes in the last 2 years (I have failed twice). Tax stuff and bequest stuff was new this year, otherwise just changes to the LOS. Other years material has had as much as 30% of the readings changes (level 2 in 07).

Interesting that they completely dropped the quant in LIII.

I took L3 again this time. Compared 2009 and 2010 curriculum and found 1 reading out (may be 2), 1 new reading in , 1 reading reshuffled from one book to other. I am hoping not much will change in 2011 (assuming I will fail). By now my 2009 books are full of underlines and side notes.

Thanks guys - hdave5, hoping you pass this time.

If you only studied three weeks and thought the material was easy, why would you need 11 months to study?

Good question - when I cram, my goal is to retain ALL the information for a very short amount of time, just enough to pass. I would actually like to know and understand all (or the key) concepts AFTER the test. But ah…the summer is so nice and free time seems to be nonexistent…

I don’t trust the sanity of CFAI anymore…I spent way too much time memorizing all those tax formulas and estate planning rules and they didn’t test it. What a colossal waste of brain cells…
