Yoga

Is this the real deal? Why is it everybody I talk to now a days does Yoga? Am I stuck in the past? Should I be able to lift my feets over my head while doing backflips? This just seems too obsessed. To anyone who does yoga, how did you get into it? To anyone who doesn’t, is this something that interests you? This is not a flame thread. Actually sort of curious to hear about the benefits. I want to find out from the forum if it really improves energy, stress, etc and what is the best way for someone to begin. Disclaimer: I don’t know if I could handle a class. I would probably feel too uncomfortable. Just like a dance class, I’d like to learn how to not dance like a white-guy but I can’t take a class. Any of you ever taken a dance class though?

now a days? Dude welcome to 1990 But yea I believe its more about the mind than your body. I think it does reduce stress and actually makes you feel good about yourself which in turn improves your health and performance (work/life/bed/etc)

Yoga promotes flexibility and muscular strength. It’s not easy to hold some of those poses for long - try doing a plank for more than a couple of minutes. I’m not sure that I believe in things like spiritual well being, but both strength and flexibility are generally good for your health.

I do it to prevent injuries more than for the whole “yogi” experience because im going on 5 mile runs roughly 3-4 times a week and playing squash and tennis pretty regularly.

I know I’m being close minded, but I will never be a yoga person. Partly because I have zero flexibility whatsoever, but also I dunno, it seems kinda feminine and if I want to get all zen I can always just run.

Yeah, nothing worse than being in a room full of 12-20 flexible women in tights posing for you.

This is one of the best thing I’m doing these days and loving it. But I’m not new to yoga…I have been doing it on n off since college days.A lot of guys are attending the class these days. lxwarr30: I would suggest you to start with a beginner class to get comfortable with it. In that class, you’ll be mostly stretching ur body rather than lifting ur head over ur feet. I have never taken a dance class but I’m very good at it.

Haha. Zero/Wake/OHAI is there a website or a series of poses you suggest for noobies?

I don’t actually do yoga. I only fantasize about certain hypothetical situations.

Zero/Wake/OHAI is there a website or a > series of poses you suggest for noobies? hey old guy - its all over the interweb, but the good stuff is on youtube i started doing yoga a couple of years ago after i tore my acl, basically to regain posture and balance. i still do some of the poses in the am to loosen up, get the blood flowing and generally feel good about the day. cobra is my fav.

Did some yoga classes back in 2007 and 2008 and I’m still doing stretches I learned there. Really helped with some back pain I’d been having and my posture as well. Not much eye candy in my classes. But in the right class and location, yeah, you’d see some good stuff.

if you’re going for the hotties try ~930 sat am classes. they’re usually milf-infested. ~11am are the youngins who are hungover from the night before.

try hot yoga dude. Hour and a half in a 105+ degree room with sweaty chicks in spandex.

I used to, it is good for posture and quieting the mind, and hot chicks but now I am in Seoul and dudes don’t do yoga in Seoul…period.
